  • Patent number: 11396348
Abstract: A body towed by a cable behind a ship and commonly referred to as a towfish, the towfish includes a structure configured to move through the water in a horizontal main direction and at least one appendage configured to generate on the towfish a downwardly directed hydrodynamic lift (P) when the towfish is moving through the water under the effect of the towing, the appendage being orientable so as to modify its lift. The towfish comprises a bracket capable of rotational movement with respect the structure about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the horizontal main direction, the cable being attached to the bracket. An orientation (?) of the appendage, allowing it to alter the lift (P), is dependent on an angle (?) formed between the bracket and the structure about the horizontal axis.

  • Publication number: 20220024545
Abstract: A faired towing cable employed on a ship for towing a submersible body launched at sea is provided. The cable comprises a core and a fairing joined to the core. The fairing is profiled so as to reduce the hydrodynamic drag of the cable. The fairing comprises several leading edges and several trailing edges joined to the leading edges. One trailing edge is held directly on two adjacent leading edges.

  • Patent number: 10457356
Abstract: A method for handling a cable that is faired by means of a fairing, the cable towed by a ship on board which there is a winch allowing the faired cable to be wound in and paid out through a faired-cable guide device, the method comprises: a first step of monitoring the cable, making it possible to detect whether the fairing is experiencing a double twist around the cable comprising an immersed full twist and an airborne full twist, and, when a double twist is detected, a first step of hauling in the faired cable, during which step the faired cable is hauled in, the first hauling step being carried out in such a way that the immersed full twist at least partially leaves the water and does not enter the guide device.

  • Patent number: 10167167
Abstract: A device for towing very long tubular objects comprises a casing and an assembly which can be fixed removably to the casing. The removable assembly comprises: pulling means capable of driving in their movement, by friction, the object in a towing direction, gripping means capable of exerting a load on the pulling means to keep the pulling means and the towed object in continuous contact; the gripping means being driven by a relative movement relative to the towed object in a direction opposite to the towing direction. The casing comprises driving means, connected removably to the pulling means and gripping means and configured to drive in movement the pulling means and the gripping means in a coordinated manner to ensure a continuous and uniform pulling of the object.
