  • Patent number: 5215326
Abstract: The invention relates to a safety binding which is adapted to retain the front end of a boot. More precisely, the invention relates to a support element on which rest the front end of the boot. The support element has a base plate and a support plate which are continuously connected, through a elastically deformable zone. An abutment limits the upward movement of the support plate, and a groove limits its downward movement.

  • Patent number: 5044658
Abstract: A safety ski binding, preferably for engaging the front of a ski boot. The binding includes an elastic energization mechanism for the jaw of the binding and a separate arrangement for compensating for different sole thicknesses. In a specific embodiment, the binding is formed as a monobloc and includes a deformation zone to automatically accommodate soles of different thicknesses. The binding also includes a front fall sensor and a rear fall compensating mechanism to further compress the spring of the energization mechanism to lessen the amount of force required to release the boot during front and rear falls.

  • Patent number: 5016902
Abstract: A safety ski binding includes two lateral retention wings movable about respective journal axes. Two frontal support elements are also journalled about the journal axis and include rolling rear surfaces which support and roll against the sole of a ski boot during lateral release of the boot from the binding. The rolling surfaces includes arcs of a circle having different radii of curvature.

  • Patent number: 4951961
Abstract: A support apparatus for the sole of a ski boot upon the upper surface of the ski, mountable on the ski in a zone where a portion of the sole is positioned to be displaced laterally during release of the boot from a safety binding. The support apparatus includes at least two support elements each of which includes an endless band which is displaceable rotationally with respect to a guide plate. The support elements, i.e., the endless bands, are to be positioned substantially end-to-end transversely of the ski. Each of the endless bands is to be movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to a radius of curvature from a point on the ski corresponding to a point of the sole of the ski boot about which the boot pivots during lateral release of the boot from the ski binding. At least two of the support elements are positioned on either side of the longitudinal axis of the ski and are positioned substantially symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 4629210
Abstract: A safety binding for a ski including a body and a jaw having two lateral retention wings adapted to hold the boot and which are journalled on the body. Also included are two rotatable adjustment screws each adapted to adjust the position of one of the lateral retention wings, to accommodate boots of different widths. A coupling apparatus is also provided for coupling the rotation of the adjustment screws. As a result, when the skier adjusts the position of one of the wings by rotating one of the screws, the position of the other wing is automatically adjusted. In order to accommodate the journalling of the wings on the body, the coupling apparatus permits the orientation of the longitudinal axes of the screws to be changed with respect to each other, as the wings journal on the body in response to rotation of the screws.

  • Patent number: 4553772
Abstract: A ski binding adapted to pivot both laterally and vertically. The binding includes a support attached to the ski and an assembly adapted to pivot therearound. The assembly includes a jaw, a pivoting element and an elastic system. The support has a substantially flat surface biased into contact with a substantially flat surface on the pivoting element. The pivoting element pivots around a single vertical axis intersecting the longitudinal axis of the binding. The elastic system in one embodiment contacts the rear of the support. In another embodiment the elastic system contacts the rear of a rocker pivoting around the pivoting element, and contacting the rear of the support. Both the rear of the rocker and the rear of the support comprise a downwardly and rearwardly extending release incline and a downwardly and forwardly extending opening incline. The elastic system is compressed when it pivots vertically along the release incline, so as to bias the assembly toward its centered boot retaining position.
