  • Patent number: 7842094
Abstract: An acetabular cup has a shell having a recess therein, the recess is open to an outer surface of the shell. The recess has an enlarged portion spaced from the shell outer surface with a diameter greater than the diameter of the opening at the surface. An insert is provided for insertion into the recess in the shell outer surface. The insert has a height greater than a depth of the recess and has a solid portion and a bifurcated portion having at least two side openings forming two to four sectors. A base of the sectors formed by bifurcated portion has an outwardly extending flange for insertion into the enlarged portion of the recess.

  • Patent number: 7455694
Abstract: A hip prosthesis has a cup element having a part-spherical inner bearing surface and a spherical center through which the plane of a diametrical equator extends, and a ball shaped head which has a diameter to cooperate with the inner bearing surface to allow movement therein. The cup has a flat cordal lower surface parallel to the plane of an equator of the ball. The inner bearing surface has two or more equally spaced extension portions which extend beyond the diametrical equator towards the mouth of the cup. The surfaces of the two or more portions are relieved to enable the ball shaped head to be inserted into the cup by moving the flat on the ball across the face of one of the bearing surface extension portions and then rotating ball head to a position in which the flat on the ball head faces the mouth of the cup.

  • Publication number: 20070191961
Abstract: A total hip prosthesis has a cup element having a part-spherical inner bearing surface and a spherical center through which the plane of a diametrical equator extends, and a ball shaped head which has a diameter to cooperate with the inner bearing surface to allow free movement therein. The cup has a flat cordal lower surface parallel to the plane of an equator of the ball. The inner bearing surface has two or more equally spaced extension portions which extend beyond the diametrical equator towards the mouth of the cup and two or more portion below the diametrical equator and between the extension portions. The surfaces of the two or more portion are relieved to enable the ball shaped head to be inserted into the cup by moving the flat on the ball across the face of one of the bearing surface extension portions and then rotating ball head to a position in which the flat on the ball head faces the mouth of the cup.

  • Patent number: 6783535
Abstract: A targeting apparatus for use in performing endofemoral osteotomy surgery has a support element provided with a drill guide. The apparatus has a connector for securing a support element to the proximal end of a prosthesis to be implanted. The apparatus includes a proximal location element which is shaped to extend around the great trochanter and muscle of the femur in which the implant is to be located. An adjustor is provided for adjusting the angular position of the drill guide in relation to the femur about a proximal-distal axis.
