Publication number: 20230350590Abstract: In some implementations, a computing device may configure a new device based on a current state of an old device, including settings, preferences, and other user data. The data may be transferred from the old device to the new device, and then relocated according to a manifest that details positions of the data on the old device. The destination device may be rebooted into a configuration mode to allow for the relocation of the transferred data, and then rebooted again to configure the destination device to provide access to the data in its respective relative locations on the destination device.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2023Publication date: November 2, 2023Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jean-Pierre Ciudad, George C. Chicioreanu, Yan Arrouye

Publication number: 20230336328Abstract: A device receives a time-based restriction for usage by a first user with respect to an application, a website or a device-level function. The device receives encrypted data indicating a usage by the first user on a second device with respect to the application, website or device-level function. The device determines that at least one of the usage by the first user on the second device or a usage by the first user on the device with respect to the application, website or device-level function violates the time-based restriction. The device provides, in response to the determining, a notification that the time-based restriction has been violated by the first user.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 16, 2023Publication date: October 19, 2023Inventors: Christopher G. SKOGEN, Jean-Pierre CIUDAD, Julien F. FREUDIGER, Joao Pedro DE ALMEIDA FORJAZ DE LACERDA, Cyrus DABOO, Todd R. FERNANDEZ, Thomas ALSINA, Deepak IYER, Cody D. JORGENSEN, Edward T. SCHMIDT, Astrid YI

Patent number: 11531468Abstract: Disclosed herein is a technique for managing storage space in a user device. Users are provided with options to manage storage space usage in an organized and efficient manner. The options can include recommendations to the user regarding automatically and/or manually purging data from the user device to free up a particular amount of storage space that is needed to carry out a particular task.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2016Date of Patent: December 20, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Steve S. Patent number: 11475106Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media for enforcing application usage policies. As part of an application purchase transaction, the application distributor creates a unique proof of purchase receipt. This receipt can be bundled with the application and delivered to the purchaser. Each machine can maintain an authorization file that lists the users authorized to use applications on that machine. A system configured to practice the method verifies that a user is authorized to use an application on a machine based on an application proof of purchase receipt and the authorization file. If the application proof of purchase receipt and the authorization file are both valid, the system checks if the user account identifier in the receipt is contained in the authorization file. If so, the user can be considered authorized to use the application on the machine.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2018Date of Patent: October 18, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jean-Pierre Ciudad, Augustin J. Farrugia, David M'Raihi, Bertrand Mollinier Toublet, Gianpaolo Fasoli, Nicholas T. Sullivan
