  • Patent number: 5339489
Abstract: A screen wiping apparatus comprises a wiper arm which carries at least one wiper blade. The wiper arm is articulated about a pivot axis on a drive head for driving the wiper arm in oscillating movement. A substantially constant wiping torque is applied to the wiper arm by a spring. The apparatus also includes means for applying a complementary torque to the wiper arm so as to modify the actual wiping force applied to the wiper blade. This complementary torque applying means includes an actuator having an output member, which is coupled to the wiper arm through a connecting member. The connecting member includes a working surface which cooperates with a complementary torque transmitting member, typically in the form of a lever, which is coupled to the wiper arm and which is pivotable with respect to the latter against the action of a loading spring.
