    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to a thermoformed structural electronics module 1 comprising integrated electronic devices 10 and a method of manufacturing thereof. The module can be manufactured by method comprising providing: a thermoformed stack including thermoplastic carrier substrate 3, electronic devices 10 with wiring and a buffer layer therebetween; and thermoforming 103 the stack at a plasticizing condition of the carrier substrate 3 and the buffer layer 2 whereby the thermomechanical buffer layer 2 comprises a thermoplastic composition having a storage modulus that is within 0.005% to 25%, preferably 0.01-10%, most preferably 0.02-2.5% of a storage modulus of the thermoplastic carrier substrate 3 during thermoforming.

    Abstract: An electronic device is described that is designed to be more easily recycled at its end of life while maintaining usability during its lifetime. The electronic device includes a first substrate, an encapsulation layer, and a set of electronics disposed there between. One or more delamination layers cover at least one side, preferably both sides, of the set of electronics to separate the set of electronics from at least one, preferably both, of the first substrate and the encapsulation layer. The set of electronics, covered by the one or more delamination layers, is encapsulated between the encapsulation layer and the first substrate. At least one of the delamination layers includes a set of passages filled with material of the encapsulation layer forming a set of interconnections between the encapsulation layer and the first substrate.

    Abstract: A curved human interface device is manufactured by thermoforming a stack. The stack comprises a front substrate formed of a transparent, first thermoplastic material; an OLED display configured to display an image through the front substrate; and a thermomechanical buffer layer formed of a transparent, second thermoplastic material arranged between the front substrate and the OLED display. Heat is applied to the stack for causing a temperature of the front substrate and buffer layer to increase to a respective processing temperature at which the first and second thermoplastic materials become pliable. The stack is thermoformed while the thermoplastic materials are pliable to form the curved human interface device. The second thermoplastic material has a lower stiffness at the respective processing temperature than the first thermoplastic material.

Also provided is a multilayer composite comprising at least a support layer; and an oriented thermoplastic polymeric sheet having two opposing surfaces and comprising a photochromic-dichroic material. The sheet exhibits dichroism in an activated state. At least one surface of the sheet is connected to at least a portion of the support layer. The present invention also relates to an optical element comprising the multilayer composite. Related methods also are disclosed.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a multifunctional optical sensor, having at least 2 areas which independently react to different input parameters, the sensor comprising a substrate and a polymeric layer comprising polymerized liquid crystal monomers having an ordered morphology, wherein the color, the reflectivity or the birefringence of the sensor changes due to a change of the morphology, wherein said change of the morphology is caused by physical contact with a chemical agent such as a gas or liquid a change of temperature, or passage of time.
