  • Patent number: 5181229
Abstract: A data receiver, and transmitter/receiver combination, for transmitting data using statistic coding. A data transmitter transmits statistic encoded data representing successive sample series in a form having a variable number of bits followed by two self-synchronizing codes, each self-synchronizing code including a suffix formed by a codeword or a concatenation of codewords. A data receiver for use with such a transmitted signal includes a correction circuit which can store at least one sample series, and a write counter for forming address codes defining locations of samples to be stored in the storage portion of the correction circuit. Preferably a sequencer provides a window signal which validates the output of a synchronizing signal detector in a time interval when the synchronizing word will probably be received.

  • Patent number: 5062125
Abstract: This arrangement has an input (10) for receiving the information to be encoded in the form of fixed words comprising a number of bits, a first transcoding member (20) for applying said variable word to "n" outputs among n parallel outputs, a second transcoding member (22) for supplying from its output the indication of the length (n), and an accumulation member (30) for forming a first "modulo N" accumulated information and a second "modulo 2N" accumulated information, which are the result of operations performed on "n".

  • Patent number: 4893123
Abstract: A transmission system for use in digital television has an input for receiving a signal to be encoded, a difference circuit (12) for supplying a differential signal formed by a given number of binary elements representing the difference between the signal to be encoded and a prediction signal, a transmission prediction circuit for supplying the prediction signal, a transmission transcoding circuit (15) for reducing the number of binary elements of the differential signal as a function of a control information, an activity measuring circuit (30) for supplying an activity information, a statistic encoding circuit (22) for variable word length coding of the output signal of the transcoding circuit, a buffer memory circuit (25) for storing the words of the statistic encoding circuit and for supplying them to the output of the system, and an occupation measuring circuit (45) for supplying an occupation information of the buffer memory circuit.

  • Patent number: 4876698
Abstract: A system for transmitting sequences of digital samples encoded by variable-length binary words is formed on the one hand by a transmitter device comprising a statistic encoding circuit for encoding in said variable-length words words of a fixed length appearing at its input in the shape of sample sequences, a synchronizing circuit for forming synchronizing words which define the position of the variable-length words in the sequences and a multiplexer circuit for combining, in view of their transmission, the synchronizing words with the variable-length words, and, on the other hand, a receiver device comprising a demultiplexer circuit for applying from one of its two outputs the variable-length words received to a statistic decoding circuit for recovering the fixed-length words and for applying from the other output the synchronizing word to a processing circuit for restituting, in the event of a transmission error, the position of the samples in the sequence.

  • Patent number: 4860314
Abstract: This encoding arrangement has an input (12) for receiving a sequence of samples to be encoded, an output for supplying encoded samples, processing circuits, more specifically:a differential circuit (20) for producing differential samples between the samples to be encoded and prediction samples,a prediction circuit (22) to produce prediction samples from the encoded samples. It is characterized in that the processing circuits are separated into encoding units (E1, E2, E3 and E4) for each effecting a processing operation on each sample to be encoded and that an interleaving member (60) is provided to convert the sequence of samples to be encoded into a sequence of interleaved samples so as to ensure that all the processing operations to be effected on a sample are indeed effected.
