  • Patent number: 6761996
Abstract: The invention is a lithium secondary battery that prevents electrolyte and internal gas leakage by durably sealing the electrolyte injecting hole. The lithium secondary battery consists of a battery can, which contains a polar plate set with an anode plate, and a separator inserted and installed inside the battery can. The opening of the battery can has a cap assembly with an electrolyte injecting hole so that the can interior can be sealed. To seal the battery can, a rivet shaped sealing member is inserted in the electrolyte injecting hole. The sealing member is placed in contact with the cap assembly at an area surrounding the electrolyte injecting hole and affixed to the cap assembly.

  • Patent number: 6630270
Abstract: The present invention relates to a prismatic lithium ion battery, more particularly to a prismatic lithium ion battery, wherein jelly roll of a lithium ion battery is mounted and electrolyte is infused in a prismatic can. The present invention provides a prismatic lithium ion battery in which improved safety is provided to a battery itself as well as its battery pack by mounting a jelly roll into a prismatic can with surfaces with recessed portions so that battery volume change due to the electrode expansion and pressure rise inside the battery is restrained. Furthermore, a prismatic lithium ion battery of the present invention improves the cycle life characteristics of a battery by alleviating the jelly roll deformation caused by the expansion and contraction of a jelly roll of a lithium ion battery due to continuous charging and discharging. Accordingly, lithium metal can be uniformly and stably adsorbed in and detached from a jelly roll.

  • Publication number: 20030099885
Abstract: The present invention relates to a punched electrode and a rechargeable lithium battery using the same, and more particularly to a punched electrode and a rechargeable lithium battery using the same that can improve cycle life, capacity, and safety characteristics of the battery. The present invention can improve cycle life, capacity, and rate characteristics etc. of the battery by making the impregnation rate of an electrolyte higher and by uniformly controlling the impregnation degree, and it can improve safety properties of the battery by preventing lithium deposition such that a uniform electrode reaction occurs, through punching out a hole in an anode, an anode/cathode, or an anode/cathode/separator of an electrode group that comprises the inner part of the lithium secondary battery.
