    Abstract: A spin-on filter comprises a housing shell, a filter element, a nutplate, and a gasket. The filter element is positionable within the housing shell and comprises a filter media and an endplate. The nutplate is positionable within the housing shell. The gasket comprises a central body and a spring-loaded extension. The spring-loaded extension circumferentially surrounds and extends radially from the central body. The spring-loaded extension is axially flexible between an expanded position and a compressed position. The spring-loaded extension forms and maintains a first seal with the endplate and maintains contact with the nutplate as the spring-loaded extension moves between the expanded position and the compressed position.

The filter assembly further includes a stop valve movable between a stop valve closed position and a stop valve open position and an anti-drain valve movable between an anti-drain valve closed position and an anti-drain valve open position. The coolant inlet is in fluid communication with the unfiltered cavity when the stop valve body is in the stop valve open position. The coolant outlet is in fluid communication with the filtered cavity when the anti-drain valve body is in the anti-drain valve open position. A filter cartridge includes a bottom endplate having a rib with a rib end face engaging with the stop valve to move the stop valve body from the stop valve closed position to the stop valve open position when the filter cartridge is positioned within the housing.

A filter element is positioned within the housing and includes a filter media configured to filter a fluid and an endcap including an annular tab portion that forms a second seal with the outer surface of the gasket when the filter element is positioned in an operating position within the housing. The vent passage circumvents the first seal and the second seal, allowing air to flow from the inner cavity of the housing to the opening in the central tube.

This construction greatly increases the beam strength of a resulting pleat that allows the channels to remain open during processing into the pleated media, and prevents buckling of the media duping gathering on current pleating equipment. In addition, once the media is pleated, the larger corrugations or embossments, combined with the standard corrugations, create large channels for fluid flow from pleat tip to the base of the pleat.
