  • Publication number: 20250065346
Abstract: Applicant discloses a novel method of spray applying multiple courses of a rapid cure, two part polymer sealant to an aircraft surface. The method sometimes uses a two part polymer mix for use in the aircraft industry that is applied with pneumatic mix and spray gun. The two part cartridge is used in the mix and spray gun so the mix is applied immediately upon mixing, but the two components are kept separated unless the gun is applying the mix. The multiple courses cure to form a clear sealant that allows for inspection of cracks and corrosion beneath the sealant. It cures quickly so that the coated part may be further processed, for example in the assembly line during aircraft build. Applicant further discloses multiple spray gun systems for applying such a two-part polymer mix to aircraft parts.

  • Patent number: 12018754
Abstract: A number of tacky polyurethane or other gel comprising composites are provided. The composites have foam carriers, which may be open cell, semi-open cell, reticulated or closed-cell foam. The tacky gel which, in one embodiment, may be polyurethane, typically comprising a thin surface coating on the foam gel and the foam is partially or fully saturated with the same gel comprising the thin surface layer of the foam. The skeletons may be included in the composite to provide additional structure integrity, and a moisture proof layer may be added to the top and/or bottom surfaces of the foam/gel.

  • Publication number: 20240199910
Abstract: A number of sealants are provided that are resistant to degradation by aircraft fluids. In some embodiments, the sealants are resistant to degradation by Jet A fluid and at least one of the three types of hydraulic fluids typically used in aircraft. These embodiments are also typically cure in place from a two-part polyurethane or polyurea mix, with cure to a visibly clear coating. In some embodiments, they may be sprayed on an aircraft surface or applied by hand (brush or injectable). In other of these embodiments, the sealants comprise, at least in part, a cured, soft, tacky polyurethane gel that is resistant to at least one of a synthetic hydrocarbon based or mineral oil based hydraulic fluid. In one embodiment, the sealant is used on a blade type aircraft antenna.

  • Patent number: 11779787
Abstract: Fireworthy sealants may have a variety of compositions and be made by a variety of techniques. In certain implementations, a fireworthy sealant may include a body comprised of a cured, tacky, soft, deformable non-adhesive gel. The gel body may have an upper surface, a lower surface, and a perimeter, wherein the upper and lower surfaces of the gel body, in an uncompressed state, define a body thickness. The sealant may, in an uncompressed state, be dimensioned to fit in a first opening between a wall and an aircraft component surface and deformable when under compression to fit in a second opening, smaller than the first opening. The sealant may be flame retardant and produce low smoke density and low smoke toxicity.

  • Patent number: 11781652
Abstract: Gaskets, including aircraft gaskets, are disclosed, the gaskets having an elastomeric gel body and substantially incompressible skeletons. The bodies may be pliable and deformable and, in one example, may be comprised of a two-part chemically cured polyurethane that sets up as a gel after mixing with the web so that it is fully integral with the web and so that there is substantially no air bubbles or air pockets left in the web. The web may be a regular shaped web and made of nylon.

  • Publication number: 20220333690
Abstract: A gasket is disclosed for use as an environmental seal between a first aircraft part having planer surface and a second aircraft part having a planer surface, the two planer parts spread apart and engaged with fasteners. The gasket, in some embodiments, is compressible between the planer surfaces. The gasket, in some embodiments, comprises a first tabular portion having tabular portion properties and having a first tabular thickness and a length and a width, the length and width much greater than the first tabular thickness; and a second tabular portion having tabular portion properties having a second tabular thickness, a length and width, the length and width much greater than the second tabular thickness; and a tabular skeleton. The first and second tabular portions and the skeleton are positioned parallel to one another. The skeleton is at least partly contacting one of the tabular portions. The first tabular portion and the second tabular portion differ in at least one tabular portion property.

  • Publication number: 20210385011
Abstract: A single piece gasket is disclosed having a skeletal member, typically metallic, and a pliable body. The pliable body includes a first portion having a first firmness and a second perimeter portion have a firmer consistency. When such a composite body is placed under compression, the perimeter will tend to limit the flow of the softer inner material past the firmer perimeter region or portion of the gasket. In this manner, creep or overrun of the less firm portion material will be reduced.
