  • Patent number: 8165927
Abstract: Processing purchasing items is provided. A broadcast television signal is received at a television system. The broadcast television signal contains data indicating that an item in the broadcast television signal is being offered for sale. A visual cue is presented in association with the item being presented in the television system in response to receiving the data. In response to receiving a user input to purchase the item, a purchase request process is sent to a seller of the item to purchase the item using personal information needed to purchase the item stored in the television system.

  • Patent number: 8115607
Abstract: A computer implemented method, computer program product and a data processing system acoustically monitor an internal data processing system component. The internal data processing system component is selected for diagnosis. The internal data processing system component is within the data processing system and has an associated microphone located proximate to the component. The microphone associated with the internal data processing system component is enabled, and an acoustic signal for the internal data processing system component is identified. An exemplar fingerprint for the internal data processing system component is then identified from storage. A determination is then made as to whether the acoustic signal deviates from the exemplar fingerprint by more than a defined statistical variance.

  • Patent number: 6966714
Abstract: A duplex check printer includes an upper document path, a print head at one side of the upper document path, and a lower document path having a loop to invert a check so that information can be printed on both sides of the check. The check is driven within the upper document path by feed rolls, which are reversed when the check is driven from the upper document path to the lower document path. The check is driven within the lower document path by belts, which are in turn driven by a separate motor.

  • Patent number: 6654068
Abstract: A computer display includes a pivotally mounted upper housing having a display screen, a brake used to retard pivoting motion of this upper housing, and a release mechanism for releasing the brake so that the upper housing can be freely moved. The display screen is preferably a touchscreen, which is touched to indicate a selection made by the user, with the brake resisting a tilting movement of the screen as it is touched. In a first version, two brakes are used to retard motion in both directions, with a single release wheel being turned in one direction to allow rearward motion of the upper housing and in another direction to allow forward motion of the upper housing. In a second version, a single brake is released by stopping motion of a release mandrel to unwrap a clutch spring.

  • Patent number: 6466384
Abstract: A device for reading magnetically encoded data on a document, such as a strip of characters printed in magnetic ink along the lower edge of a check, executes a subroutine to determine whether each character, as it is read, is legitimate. This error detection may be done by comparing recognized code patterns with legitimate code patterns, or by comparing a signal representing the strength of the signal derived from the output of the magnetic read head reading the data with a predetermined level. If an error is detected, the magnetically encoded data is read and checked again, as often as need up to a predetermined number of attempts to read the data.

  • Patent number: 6447182
Abstract: A printer for printing on both sides of a document includes first printing document guides, through which a document is driven for printing on a first side of the document, second printing document guides, through which the document is driven for printing on a second side of the document, and transfer document guides, into which the document is driven between motions within the first and second printing document guides, with a deflector determining the printing document guide into which a document is driven from the transfer document guides. A print head is pivotally mounted between the printing document guides, being pivoted between a position adjacent the first printing document guides and a position adjacent the second printing document guides.

  • Patent number: 6408727
Abstract: A printer mechanism includes a single motor turning a system drive gear in a paper feeding direction, and in a cam driving direction, opposite the paper feeding direction. When the system drive gear is turned in the paper feeding direction, a paper feeding spring clutch drives a paper feed roll with the system drive gear. When the system drive gear is turned in the cam driving direction, a drive cam is driven by a cam driving spring clutch. The drive cam has a first surface driving a moving knife blade across a stationary knife blade in a cutting direction, and in a return direction opposite the cutting direction. With this movement in the cutting direction, the moving knife is held against the stationary knife blade, and, with movement in the return direction, the moving knife is moved away from the stationary knife blade, by means of a second surface of the drive cam.
