Patent number: 8118675Abstract: A system and method for relaying race information related to a plurality of races, such as horse or greyhound races, typically held at racetracks. The system includes a computer system that receives and stores current race information from the plurality of races. The system also includes a remote device coupled to the computer system. A user operating the remote device can view race information and place wagers on the races. The method begins by the computer system sending initial race information to the remote device. As current race information is received from the racetracks, the computer system compares current race information with the initial race information sent to the remote device. The computer system then sends updated race information to the remote device. This updated race information includes only race information that has changed since the initial race information was sent from the computer system to the remote device.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2004Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Youbet.com, LLCInventors: Jeffrey R Horowitz, Henry P Stapp, Ruben M Pegorer, Jeff Franklin

Patent number: 8083584Abstract: A computer system permitting cancellation of wagers on pending events includes a wager cancellation link, which when enabled, permits the user to cancel their wager prior to the occurrence of the pending event, such as a horse race. The wager cancellation link may be enabled for users who do not have a history of excessive cancellation of wagers, measured either by number of cancellations or by a dollar value of cancelled wagers. The wager cancellation link may also be enabled for certain events occurring at certain venues. A wager cancellation limitation disables the wager cancellation link when the limitation has been violated. The computer system credits the user's account with the value of the cancelled wager in response to cancellation of the wager.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2006Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Youbet.com, LLCInventors: John D. Greiner, Henry P. Stapp, Jeff Franklin, Ruben M. Pegorer

Patent number: 7815506Abstract: A system and method for rewarding a player for activity through a computer system relating to a racetrack track event. The computer system is operatively connected with a remote device to display a player interface to transmit and receive information and requests from the player. The request may be for various player activity through the computer system, including wagers, purchases for products or services, and various other activities relating to wagering on a racetrack event. The computer system tracks the player activity and determines an award amount for the player activity. The award amount is dependent on the reward level of the player as determined by a set of predetermined criteria inputted into the computer system. The player can accumulate the award amount in an award total or redeem the award total for prizes, products, services or a cash value.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2007Date of Patent: October 19, 2010Assignee: Youbet.COM, Inc.Inventors: Jeff Franklin, Ruben M. Pegorer, Jeffrey R. Horowitz

Patent number: 7118591Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, methods, and computer code for, among other things, monitoring the health of samples such as the brain while providing local cooling or heating. A representative device is a heat transfer probe, which includes an inner channel, a tip, a concentric outer channel, a first temperature sensor, and a second temperature sensor. The inner channel is configured to transport working fluid from an inner inlet to an inner outlet. The tip is configured to receive at least a portion of the working fluid from the inner outlet. The concentric outer channel is configured to transport the working fluid from the inner outlet to an outer outlet. The first temperature sensor is coupled to the tip, and the second temperature sensor spaced apart from the first temperature sensor.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2004Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: The University of ChicagoInventors: Jeffrey I.
