    Abstract: A boat lift winch drive with a sensor or method of sensor engagement that is designed to determine the revolutions, position, speed and direction of the winch shaft is disclosed. The sensor may be incorporated into the winch drive that attaches to the winch shaft. The sensor may be located after the motors gear reduction and at the winch drive and winch shaft to allow for less expensive electronics and components to be used, reducing the cost of controls required to reduce the motor speed before reaching the intended stopping point.
