  • Patent number: 8458692
Abstract: Data migration from existing to replacement information handling systems is integrated with manufacture of the replacement information handling system by including a data migration application and rules in the image copied to the replacement information handling system during manufacture. The rules define the data migration, such as the types of files allowed and disallowed for data migration, the physical interface for the data migration, the initial power up and display interface to support the data migration application and the deletion of the data migration application after completion of the data migration operation. The replacement information handling system ships to the end user and initiates the data migration application on power-up to present instruction to perform the data migration.

  • Patent number: 8127123
Abstract: A system for migrating information includes a first information handling system (IHS). The first IHS is for, in response to a first boot event, booting from a computer readable medium, bypassing the first IHS user authentication requirement, and establishing a connection between the first IHS and a second IHS. The system for migrating information also includes the second IHS, coupled to the first IHS. The second IHS is for, in response to a second boot event, booting from a storage device of the second IHS, establishing the connection between the first IHS and the second IHS, and migrating information from the first IHS to the second IHS.

  • Publication number: 20080228505
Abstract: A deployment optimization model that identifiers and categorizes issues (such as key cost and quality drivers) in information handling system deployment and provisioning. The deployment optimization model is used within a deployment and evaluation tool which provides based on this model, a set of processes and tools for evaluating information handling system deployment issues of customers. Based on information derived from the deployment and evaluation tool, it is possible to determine a customer's current cost to deploy information handling systems as well as a future cost if various recommendations are adopted.

  • Publication number: 20080228814
Abstract: An asset discovery tool and process in which information from a customer's hardware and software environment is collected and the resulting customer data is processed using statistical algorithms based upon supplier specific information. After the data is processed, the asset discovery tool use the results to build reports that help customers make decisions regarding their application portfolio which will optimize their information handing system deployment costs.

  • Publication number: 20080228506
Abstract: An optimized deployment solution which uses a front-end to automatically drive deployment of an information handling system. The optimized deployment solution queries multiple data locations and creates a manifest that is used to automate the deployment. The optimized deployment solution decreases an amount of interaction that is needed from a technician thus decreasing the potential for technician failures.

  • Publication number: 20080228535
Abstract: A client deployment assessment tool which provides a structured approach to evaluating a customer's information handling system deployment processes and tools. The client deployment assessment tool accurately estimates costs and shows how an information handling system provider could reduce those costs.

  • Publication number: 20060288093
Abstract: Replacement of legacy information handling systems at a deployment site is automatically managed in cooperation with an information handling system manufacture site by coordinating the building of replacement information handling systems with appropriate configurations. An asset discovery tool interfaces with the legacy information handling systems through a deployment site network to discover the configurations of the legacy systems and communicates the legacy configurations to the manufacture site. An asset translation engine translates the legacy configurations to replacement configurations for building the replacement information handling systems. The ordering of replacement systems and the translation to the replacement configuration is managed by rules defined through an order tool of the deployment site and may include applications packaged at the deployment site and communicated to the manufacture site for installation on the replacement systems.

  • Publication number: 20060129769
Abstract: Data migration directly from legacy to replacement information handling systems is managed over a set of one or more switches. The legacy information handling system boots with a manufacturing operating system provided from a data migration information handling system server and runs a data migration application also provided from the server. Running the data migration application over the manufacturing operating system avoids password protection of the legacy information handling system. A pair of target storage device keys interface with a legacy and associated replacement system to aid in location of the replacement system on the network for direct system-to-system data transfer.
