  • Patent number: 11701790
Abstract: A complete pen mandrel turning assembly that may allow for simple, accurate, and repeatable centering of a pen mandrel shaft. The presently disclosed system may further include a tail stock assembly that is adjustable to allow the tail stock to be positioned right next to the pen blank to eliminate any chance of runout and other associated problems. Further, the present disclosure may provide a series of precision bushings for use with the pen turning assembly to securely hold a pen blank in the turning assembly while providing an accurate and precise turning reference for the pen turner.

  • Patent number: 11154941
Abstract: A pen milling device and a method for milling pen blanks therewith. The device has a body selectively engageable with a rotating apparatus. A replaceable cutter is engaged with the body such that a cutting edge thereof extends outwardly beyond the body's end surface. The cutter has multiple cutting edges and may be reoriented relative to the body if a presented cutting edge becomes dull or damaged. A reamer extending outwardly from the body includes at least one flute. As the device is rotated, the cutter removes material from a pen blank and the reamer removes dried adhesive from a bore of a pen tube secured within a hole defined in the pen blank The device removes all of the pen material extending between an end of the pen blank and an associated end of the pen tube.

  • Publication number: 20200139573
Abstract: A tool, system, and method for shaping a wooden workpiece. The system includes a lathe, a toolrest, and a woodturning tool for removing material from the workpiece. The tool includes a handle with a shaft extending longitudinally outwardly therefrom. A cutter is provided on an end of the shaft. The shaft includes a longitudinally-extending bottom surface and a longitudinally-extending side surface. The side surface extends laterally outwardly from the bottom surface and at an obtuse angle relative thereto. Two contact points provided on one of the bottom and side surfaces are brought into contact with the toolrest on the lathe to steady the shaft and use the cutter on the workpiece. The orientation of the cutter is changed between a first position and second position depending on which of the bottom surface or side surface contacts the toolrest.

Each of the bottom and side surfaces is flat and is separately brought into contact with the toolrest on the lathe to steady the shaft and use the cutter on the workpiece. The orientation of the cutter is changed between a first position and second position depending on which of the bottom surface or side surface contacts the toolrest.
