  • Patent number: 7195348
Abstract: In a system for laser welding upper and lower work pieces along a weld interface, the upper work piece being transparent to laser light and having a non-uniformly thick dimension, compensation plates and compliant members are taught that mate or otherwise contact the upper work piece such that a combined thickness of the upper work piece and the compensation plate or compliant member is substantially uniform in a region at least above the weld interface. In this manner, substantially consistent amounts of laser light reach the weld interface. The upper work piece may include positive projections, negative voids, contoured profiles, surface imperfections or other that cause the non-uniformity. In one embodiment, the compensation plate is fashioned together with a compliant member. In another embodiment, the upper and lower work pieces comprise inkjet printhead lids and bodies, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6321414
Abstract: A snap-in hinge for an enclosure having provisions to prevent binding of the attached cover. The hinge includes at least two legs extending from the ends of a curved portion of the hinge and a blocking means integral with the corresponding hinge slot located in the enclosure. The legs, extending from the ends of the hinge, provide a smooth and continuous bearing surface for the enclosure cover, thereby preventing the enclosure cover from being trapped under an extended portion of the hinge which might be used to prevent over insertion of the hinge into the hinge slot. The blocking means of the corresponding hinge slot engaging parallel edges of the curved portion on the hinge prevents the hinge from being over inserted into the slot and thereby binding on the portion of the enclosure cover captivated by the curved portion of the hinge.

  • Patent number: 5331119
Abstract: A speaker support frame structure and optional cover for recessed mounting of a speaker in a wall or the like. The frame structure incorporates a one-piece, unitary molded frame body which has an open central region, a flattened perimeter region adjacent thereto, an adjacent peripheral upstanding shoulder region, and a terminal outwardly turned collar region. A speaker is nestably received thereon. Leg members are associated with a screw that extends through an orifice formed with the frame body. The leg members pivotally outswing and engage wall surfaces with adjustable clamping force. The frame body can be further provided with a frontal first ridge and also with a cover plate which has a rear second ridge so that the first and second ridge can engage mutually in a connecting relationship.

  • Patent number: 4940355
Abstract: A push to install, quarter turn to release fastening system includes a fastener having a plurality of radially extending frustum-shaped projections spaced along a shank and a pair of diametrically opposed ribs extending along the shank forming smooth surfaces outside the periphery of the frustum-shaped projections. The receptacle includes a split cylinder forming a pair of spring latches that are displaced to permit entry and captivation of the fastener. When the fastener is turned 90.degree., the ribs displace the spring latches to positions out of engagement with the frustum-shaped projections to enable removal of the fastener from the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4909551
Abstract: An electrical distribution load center consists of a non-conductive enclosure and a circuit breaker bus bar support panel that are interconnected by interlock members that can be snap-fitted to secure the two panels to each other. The support panel also has a latch member so that the bus bars can be mounted onto the panel in a heat-staking, insert-molded or snap-fit arrangement. The support panel also has elements for locking the circuit breakers onto the panels in conducting contact with the bus bars. The enclosure and the support panel are enclosed by a non-metallic trim panel that has a non-metallic door hinged thereto and which carries a latch for latching the door to the trim panel.

  • Patent number: 4900210
Abstract: A fastening system comprises a push in-screw out fastener having a slotted head, threaded cylindrical shank with a plurality of resilient thread segments thereon and a tubular receptacle. The diameter of the receptacle is less than the diameter of the thread segments and greater than the shank diameter such that the thread segments are deformed by insertion of the fastener into the receptacle. The receptacle has an internal thread formed at its entry. The internal thread engages the resilient thread segments to impart a removal force to the fastener when its slotted head is rotated in a counterclockwise direction.
