    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for aligning a vertical shaft or multiple axially coupled vertical shafts in a hydroelectric turbine generator or a similar vertical-shaft system, and for providing precise plumb inclination alignment of a vertical rotating shaft. Precision inclinometers attached to the vertical shaft measure plumb inclination. Proximity probe displacement devices mounted externally of the vertical shaft measure radial movement, throw, or run out at various shaft elevations as the shaft is rotated relative to a fixed point. Data acquisition devices and communication devices accumulate and transmit alignment data to a micro-computer which receives and processes such data. Methods of defining shaft plumb inclination in a static single rotational position and defining plumb inclination of the virtual centerline of a shaft's rotational throw position. A method of swinging, tilting, or adjusting a vertical shaft to a corrected or different plumb position relative to the earth's gravity.

    Abstract: A coalescer media flexible container for retaining coalescer media in the coalescer chamber of an oil-water separator is provided having a flexible enclosure and a randomly arranged, loosely packed coalescing medium. The flexible container has a top surface connected to a bottom surface. The flexible enclosure conforms to the shape of the coalescer chamber in which the flexible enclosure is placed. The flexible enclosure has an interior, with the flexible enclosure fabricated so as to permit liquids to easily pass into the interior of the flexible enclosure where the randomly arranged, loosely packed coalescing medium is retained. The flexible enclosure is preferably fabricated from a group of materials including plastic mesh, reinforced aerated plastic bags, wire mesh, fabric mesh, and netting. Furthermore, in at least one embodiment of the invention, a planar sheetform member is located in the interior of the flexible enclosure directly adjacent the bottom surface.

    Abstract: A process and equipment for plasma sterilization in which articles in a sterilizing chamber are taken through at least one combination sterilizing cycle. The articles to be sterilized may include the interior of a vessel or chamber. In that case, the vessel or chamber itself may serve as a sterilizing chamber and connects to the plasma generating chamber. Each combination sterilizing cycle includes a pulsed treatment with gaseous antimicrobial agent, removal of the gaseous antimicrobial agent, and a plasma treatment. The pulsed treatment includes one or more pulse-vacuum cycles, each pulse-vacuum cycle includes the steps of evacuating the sterilizing chamber and exposing the article to the gaseous antimicrobial agent with a predetermined pressure profile during a predetermined time. The gaseous antimicrobial agent is preferably carried in a gas mixture with a nonreactive carrier gas. In one embodiment, the predetermined pressure is pulsed. In another embodiment, it is ramped.
