Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system that includes a shearing ram configured to mount in a blowout preventer, wherein the shearing ram includes a body portion configured to move along an axis of movement and a sealing member disposed in a first surface of the body portion, where the sealing member is biased away from the first surface in a crosswise direction relative to the axis of movement, such that the sealing member is configured to engage a second surface of a second shearing ram when the first shearing ram and the second shearing ram overlap with one another with respect to the axis of movement.
