  • Publication number: 20120236530
Abstract: A lighting assembly includes a light guide to propagate light by total internal reflection and having a light output region on a major surface thereof. The lighting assembly also includes an optical adjuster having a major surface juxtaposed with and conforming to the light guide's major surface. The optical adjuster has a first region and a second region, the first region having a light modifying characteristic. The optical adjuster and light output region are variably positionable relative to one another to selectively apportion light emitted from the light output region between the first region and the second region. In this way, light apportioned to the first region is modified by the light modifying characteristic so that light output from the lighting assembly is modified based on relative positioning of the optical adjuster and the light guide.

  • Publication number: 20120236591
Abstract: A lighting assembly includes a light guide and light source. The light guide includes light input regions, at least one of the light input regions associated with an optical modifying characteristic, and the light guide is configured to propagate light by total internal reflection. • Patent number: 8215816
Abstract: A light emitting assembly comprises a light source, a light emitting panel member having an input edge that receives light from the light source, and end edge and side edge reflectors. The panel member is received in a cavity or recess of a tray or housing. An additional component overlies the panel member. • Publication number: 20120081919
Abstract: A light emitting assembly comprises a plurality of light sources and a solid light emitting panel member having a light input edge and a transition area between the light sources and the light input edge. Light from the light sources enters the transition area and mixes within the transition area prior to entering the panel member. Refractive surfaces on the transition area redirect the light into the panel member. A film is maintained in spaced relation from the panel member by spacers at a perimeter of the film to form a hollow layer between the panel member and the film. Deformities on or in the panel member cause light to be extracted from the panel member and pass through the hollow layer and out through the film.
