Abstract: A method and system for product configuration is provided. The system includes, a user interface that allows a user to configure a product; a web-based application that interfaces with the user interface, a data collector module and a view creation module allowing a user to configure the product; and a data communication layer that interfaces between the web-based application and plural databases for building an XML based product configuration database. XML tags are used for identifying various options that are selected by the user. The method includes, creating and/or updating catalog data using XML tags; allowing a user to select product configuration options; and displaying user selected product options. The user interface includes a configuration interface; catalog interface; viewing interface and a summary interface. The configuration interface allows a user to build an overall product configuration; and the catalog interface allows a user to select and/or de-select plural options.
