Patent number: 10885012Abstract: A method performs large-scale data processing in a distributed and parallel processing environment. The method defines application-independent map and reduce operations, each invoking one or more library functions that automatically handle data partitioning, parallelization of computations, and fault tolerance. A user specifies a map operation, which calls one or more of the application-independent map operators to perform data read and write operations. A user also specifies a reduce operation, which calls one or more of the application-independent reduce operators to perform data read and write operations. The method executes application-independent map worker processes. Each map worker process executes the user-specified map operation to read designated portions of input files and store intermediate data values in intermediate data structures. The method also executes application-independent reduce worker processes.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2019Date of Patent: January 5, 2021Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Jeffrey Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat

Patent number: 10835834Abstract: A rail coaster operates as a cross between a roller coaster and a zip line. A rail may be suspended under a frame by flexible cables or solid brackets. The rail may turn, incline, decline, or twist, but need not twist to still provide a “rolling” degree of freedom for a rider. An eddy current brake provides proportional braking as a function of speed. A cam-adjustment-axle (eccentric) carries certain wheels to provide finely divided, discrete, but incrementally small adjustments of idler wheel clearances to accommodate variations in the rail, wheel wear, and onsite adjustment of tolerances for curvature, unevenness, and friction. A “static universal” bracket provides adjustment in four degrees of freedom, three of translation and one of rotation in securing a rail to a supporting frame.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2017Date of Patent: November 17, 2020Assignee: HIGH VELOCITY DESIGNS, LLCInventors: Jeffrey Dean Wilson, Christopher Ryan Resnicke

Publication number: 20200270812Abstract: Disclosed are papermaking fabrics comprising a plurality of structuring elements disposed on a carrier structure. The fabrics are useful in the manufacture of tissue products having good caliper and smoothness without negatively affecting drying of the tissue product. The fabrics have structuring elements having a polygonal cross-sectional shape and a perimeter less than 3.6 mm, such as from about 1.4 to 3.6 mm. In certain instances the structuring elements may cover more than about 28 percent, such as from about 28 to about 35 percent, of the surface area of the web contacting surface of the carrier structure without adversely affecting drying. In this manner the amount of the nascent web that contacts the structuring elements and is molded into a smooth surface is maximized without exacerbating the negative affect to drying commonly associated with occluding a large portion of the surface area of the papermaking fabric.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 21, 2018Publication date: August 27, 2020Inventors: Jeffrey Dean Holz, Kenneth John Zwick, Mark William Sachs, Kevin Joseph Vogt, Mike Thomas Goulet, Mark Alan Burazin

Publication number: 20200187725Abstract: The present invention provides tissue webs and products having improved z-directional properties. The improved z-directional properties may be achieved by providing the structure with a unique three-dimensional surface topography, which increases the structure's Exponential Compression Modulus (K) and Caliper Under Load (C0). By improving both K and C0, the present inventors have also been able to provide tissue structures with relatively high Compression Energy (E), which enables the structures to be calendered at high loads without significant loss of sheet bulk or degradation of strength.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2020Publication date: June 18, 2020Inventors: Kevin Joseph Vogt, Mark Alan Burazin, Jeffrey Dean Holz, Mark William Sachs, Priya Pari Bhagat
