  • Patent number: 8016904
Abstract: An oil fill cap for an internal combustion engine replaces a standard cap and provides separation of air and oil in a separation zone within the cap body. The cap body defines a plurality of passages therethrough, including an upstream passage, and first and second downstream passages meeting at a separation junction. The cap body defines a separation zone at the separation junction and receiving the air/oil mixture from the engine through the upstream passage, and sending separated air to the first downstream passage, and sending separated oil to the second downstream passage.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 27, 2010
Date of Patent: September 13, 2011
    Assignee: Cummins Filtration IP Inc.
Inventors: Jared M. Gwin, Thomas J. Braun, Thom H. Steger, Roger L. Zoch, Kurt M. A. Badeau, Jeffrey A. Fedorowicz

  • Patent number: 6478018
Abstract: A flat panel filter element is provided for a diesel engine crankcase ventilation filter having a flat low profile filter housing extending in a horizontal plane. The flat panel filter element has media, including coalescing media, spanning a horizontal supporting and sealing perimeter border frame and passing flow downwardly therethrough.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 15, 2001
Date of Patent: November 12, 2002
    Assignee: Nelson Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Jeffrey A. Fedorowicz, Christopher E. Holm, G. Michael Gron, Jr., Mark V. Holzmann, Kendall M. McBroom
  • Patent number: 6478019
Abstract: A diesel engine crankcase ventilation filter is provided by a flat low profile filter housing extending in a horizontal plane and having an upper planar horizontal surface, a lower planar horizontal surface, and side surfaces extending between the upper and lower surfaces. A planar horizontal flat panel filter element extends parallel to the upper and lower surfaces. The housing has an upper plenum between the flat panel filter element and the upper surface, and a lower plenum between the flat panel filter element and the lower surface, an inlet receiving oil and air from the diesel engine and supplying same along an inlet path to the upper plenum to flow downwardly through the flat panel filter element to the lower plenum, a first outlet outputting air along a first outlet path from the lower plenum, and a second outlet outputting oil along a second outlet path from the lower plenum.
