  • Patent number: 8089181
Abstract: A system and method for controlling connection of an electrical outlet to a power source so as to exclude the human body model. A first signal is generated and fed to the outlet through an outlet control device; feedback from a load at the outlet is detected. The load detector outputs a second signal to an outlet control device. The outlet is connected to the power source in accordance with the second signal. The outlet is not connected to the power source in the absence of a load, or if the detected load is consistent with the human body model.

  • Patent number: 8053925
Abstract: A system and method are provided for monitoring and controlling voltage modulation on a power grid, in order to maintain closed-loop control of the grid. The power grid has a plurality of connections including used and unused connections. A detector is configured to detect a modulation voltage on the power grid. A controller is configured to receive signals from the detector, and to control connections to the power grid. The controller disables power to unused connections in accordance with the modulation voltage exceeding a first threshold and disables power to used connections in accordance with the modulation voltage exceeding a second threshold; used connections are disabled one at a time at a first time interval each for a period given by a second time interval. The controller also restores power to the connections in accordance with the detected modulation voltage being less than a third threshold.

  • Publication number: 20110010017
Abstract: A load distribution and management system (LDMS) has a source of multi-phase power and multiple power lines. A separate power line is associated with each phase of power. These power lines connect the power source to a plurality of outlets. A threshold compare circuit is effective to compare power drawn through the plurality of outlets to a preset power limit and signal a phase rotation control if the power drawn exceeds the threshold power. The phase rotation control effective to interchange the power line associated with two of said multi-phases in response to said signal and a rotation detector disables those outlets not in use in response to the interchange of power and power lines. Conversely, when the power drawn is less than the preset threshold power, the phase rotation control returns the power phase to its associated power line signaling the rotation detector to enable disabled outlets.

  • Publication number: 20080309297
Abstract: An outlet provides both AC and DC power to at least one device. The outlet includes an input portion adapted to receive a first voltage input and a second voltage input wherein the first voltage input is a variable DC voltage and the second input is AC of a desired voltage and frequency. A converter reduces the first input voltage to a constant DC voltage output effective to power a PED. The outlet has a first receptacle in the form of a USB port to deliver the DC power to the device and a second receptacle to deliver the AC power to the device. A sensing circuit is coupled to the outlet and determines if a source of the second voltage may safely provide the AC power.

  • Publication number: 20040021371
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention comprises apparatus for and method of managing and distributing power from a supply of limited power. A plurality of outlets is connected to a plurality of power units. In accordance with the present invention, an amount of power drawn by the outlets is measured and compared to a first predetermined electrical power level and a second predetermined electrical power level. When the amount of measured power being drawn exceeds the second predetermined maximum electrical power level, all outlets are disabled. When the amount of measured power being drawn is less than both the first predetermined electrical power level and the second predetermined electrical power level, all outlets are enabled. When the amount of measured power being drawn exceeds the first predetermined electrical power level, outlets currently in use by a power utilizing device are enabled while outlets not currently in use by a power utilizing device are disabled.
