  • Patent number: 7933286
Abstract: A system and method for communicating between nodes in a communications network. The network includes nodes that broadcast and receive data packets over a radio channel. The system includes a distributed trunking method that distributes the communications between the nodes over multiple channels. Voice and other data may be broadcast over data channels, while information regarding the availability of the data channels is broadcast over a control channel. Access to the control channel is controlled using a protocol that may include carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA), time division multiple access (TDMA) or a hybrid of CSMA/TDMA.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 2005
Date of Patent: April 26, 2011
    Assignee: Harris Corporation
Inventors: Stanley Vitebsky, Jeffrey A. Kroon

  • Patent number: 7406327
Abstract: A system adapts power for minimizing the total amount of transmitted power in a wireless communications network. A transmit station transmits a communications signal requesting a response from receiving mobile stations. A plurality of the mobile stations receives the communications signal and each evaluates the signal reception, such as the signal-to-noise ratio or transmitted power. Each mobile station responds by transmitting a communications signal back to the transmit station in a specific time slot as a function of the signal reception to allow the transmit station to adapt its power based on the time slot of the communications signals received from respective mobile stations. This minimizes the total amount of power transmitted by the wireless communications network.

  • Patent number: 6856599
Abstract: A system and method of increasing message throughput in a communications system utilizing priority management, conglomeration and compression, TCP retransmission filtering and pull transmission. The priority manages ranks the messages in a message queue as a function of the priority and time to live of each message. The conglomerator conglomerates messages into assemblies destined for the same destination radio. The TCP filter prevents the retransmission of successfully received messages. The messages are transmitted as a function of the availability of the destination radio to receive.
