  • Publication number: 20060006144
Abstract: An arc-interrupting compound, such as melamine, and to a method of extinguishing an arc by disposing the composition along the path of the arc, for contacting the arc. In one embodiment, the binder, or at least a portion of the binder, is a polymer that contains a functional group that binds to a coupling agent that is included in the arc-extinguishing composition. The coupling agent ties the polymeric binder to the arc-extinguishing compound, e.g., melamine, to provide new and unexpected physical strength and stability to the composition. In this embodiment, the molded composition, including the arc-interrupting compound coupled to the binder, maintains excellent arc-interrupting capability, while providing chemical stability and electrical insulating properties as well as unexpected physical strength.

  • Patent number: 6816570
Abstract: A thin film analysis system includes multi-technique analysis capability. Grazing incidence x-ray reflectometry (GXR) can be combined with x-ray fluorescence (XRF) using wavelength-dispersive x-ray spectrometry (WDX) detectors to obtain accurate thickness measurements with GXR and high-resolution composition measurements with XRF using WDX detectors. A single x-ray beam can simultaneously provide the reflected x-rays for GXR and excite the thin film to generate characteristic x-rays for XRF. XRF can be combined with electron microprobe analysis (EMP), enabling XRF for thicker films while allowing the use of the faster EMP for thinner films. The same x-ray detector(s) can be used for both XRF and EMP to minimize component count. EMP can be combined with GXR to obtain rapid composition analysis and accurate thickness measurements, with the two techniques performed simultaneously to maximize throughput.

  • Patent number: 6777043
Abstract: An arc-quenching composition is provided including a filler, a fiber and a binder. Preferably, the filler includes an arc-quenching compound such as melamine. The binder includes a thermosetting resin to facilitate forming of the arc-quenching composition into an arc-quenching fuse tube. In a preferred arrangement, an outer tube is formed over the arc-quenching fuse tube to provide an overall high-strength fuse tube. Also in a preferred arrangement, in order to provide a fuse tube that is capable of operation over an extremely wide current range, the inner arc-quenching tube includes a tapered bore. According to one fabrication technique, the outer tube is formed over the arc-quenching inner tube before the curing of the inner tube such that a single structure results.

  • Patent number: 6771735
Abstract: Thin film thickness measurement accuracy in x-ray reflectometry systems can be enhanced by minimizing scattering and beam spreading effects. An oblong x-ray beam can be produced by shaping the electron beam in an x-ray microfocus tube, or by creating a target with a metal strip having the desired beam cross section. The elongation allows the beam direction dimension to be substantially reduced, without causing overheating of the target. By blocking portions of the x-ray beam focused on the thin film and generating reflectivity curves in increments, the effects of scattering can be minimized.
