Patent number: 10723990Abstract: A container, such as a disposable or single use bioreactor, optionally having one or more inlets and one or more outlets and a mixer associated with the container to cause mixing, dispersing, homogenizing and/or circulation of one or more ingredients contained or added to the container. The container includes a flexible baffle shaped and positioned within the container to improve mixing, particularly to improve low shear mixing. The baffle is positioned within the container so as to disrupt the vortex formed by the mixer, or prevent formation of a vortex. The baffle is shaped with both horizontal and vertical elements to enhance disruption of the vortex across the entire vessel height and provide homogeneous mixing throughout all operating volumes. In certain embodiments, the baffle is X-shaped.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2014Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: EMD Millipore CorporationInventors: Kara Der, Anne Hansen, James McSweeney, David Kraus, Jeffrey Pearsons, Amy Wood

Publication number: 20180024026Abstract: A system and method for measuring integrity of flexible containers is disclosed. The system uses a low mass flow transducer to monitor the flow of fluid into the flexible container. Based on this flow rate, the existence of an orifice in the flexible container may be detected. The system also includes a second flow path to the flexible container to allow for faster fill times. Greater flow rates are achieve through the use of a second high mass flow transducer or a calibrated bypass path. These alternate paths allow greater flow rates until the flexible container is determined to be nearly full, at which point all flow passes with the low mass flow transducer.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2016Publication date: January 25, 2018Inventors: Stephen Proulx, Jeffrey Pearsons

Patent number: 9480878Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for enabling an operator to exercise comprising a frame having a body, a base and a top. A load is positioned on the frame for providing a resistive force. A press is positioned on the frame for displacement by the operator. A linkage joins the load with the press for displacing the load upon displacement of the press by the operator. An arm extends between a support end and a user end. A support pivot secures the support end of the arm to the top of the frame for pivoting the arm about the frame. A user interface inputs and outputs data. A user pivot securing the user interface to the user end of the arm for pivoting the user interface about the arm.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2016Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Inventors: Carl R. Spoeth, Jr., Jeffrey A. Pearson, Jacob Fitzgerald
