  • Patent number: 11927193
Abstract: A multi-stage charging device includes a shaft that is supported for rotation about an axis. The charging device also includes a first compressor wheel of a first compressor stage. The first compressor wheel is fixed on the shaft. Furthermore, the charging device includes a second compressor wheel of a second compressor stage. The second compressor wheel is fixed on the shaft. Additionally, the charging device includes a turbine wheel of a turbine section. The turbine wheel is fixed on the shaft in a back-to-back arrangement with the second compressor wheel.

  • Publication number: 20150159660
Abstract: A turbocharger including a turbine wheel having a hub-to-tip ratio of no more than 60% and blades with a high turning angle, a turbine housing forming an inwardly spiraling primary-scroll passageway that significantly converges to produce highly accelerated airflow into the turbine at high circumferential angles, and a two-sided parallel compressor. The compressor and turbine each produce substantially no axial force, allowing the use of minimal axial thrust bearings.

  • Publication number: 20110271936
Abstract: An engine system includes an internal combustion engine and an air intake assembly configured to supply a flow of air to one or more cylinders of the internal combustion engine. The air intake assembly includes an air supply conduit with a turbine therein, a bypass conduit configured to bypass the turbine, and a fresh air valve configured to selectively direct the flow of air to one or both of the air supply conduit and the bypass conduit. An exhaust conduit is configured to receive a flow of exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine and direct the flow of exhaust gas away from the internal combustion engine. A compressor in the exhaust conduit, which may be coupled to the turbine by a shaft, is configured to rotate and thereby reduce backpressure in the exhaust conduit during idle and partial throttle conditions.
