Patent number: 10273952Abstract: A pressure packing for a piston rod of a reciprocating compressor includes a case having a piston rod through bore. A compartment within the case is coincident with the through bore and the compartment has an axial length at least as long as a stroke of the piston rod.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2012Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: Nuovo Pignone SrlInventors: Carlos Alfredo Trevino, Vinh K. Patent number: 10025889Abstract: A computer-implemented method is disclosed for characterizing a threaded coupling such as between two tubular members, e.g., casing segments employed in the field of oil and gas recovery. In one embodiment, a virtual model of the coupling is generated, and the virtual model is re-arranged to simulate plastic deformation of at least part of the coupling. The re-arranged model is analyzed to derive a stress/strain distribution of the coupling subject to subsequent loading, and an SAF (stress amplification factor) is determined from the analysis that reflects the effect of cyclic loading of the coupling. The method facilitates a thorough assessment of the performance of the coupling in fatigue.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2014Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: VETCO GRAY, LLCInventors: Micah Antonio Thomas, Jr., Jeffrey Allen Raynal, Thomas Lowell Steen, Joseph William Pallini, Xichang Zhang, Baozhi Zhu

Publication number: 20150345246Abstract: A subset wellhead component has a metal seal surface having voids. The voids are initially filled with an elastomeric substrate having hollow beads. When lowered into the subsea assembly, the beads have sufficient strength to resist collapsing under a hydrostatic pressure of liquid within the subsea wellhead assembly to prevent shrinking of a volume of the substrate. Exerting a setting force on the metal seal surface to form the sealing engagement causes the beads to collapse and reduce the volume of the substrate within the voids. The seal surface may be folds of a bellows-type nose ring of a seal assembly. The seal surface may alternately be wickers formed in the bore of the wellhead housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2015Publication date: December 3, 2015Inventors: Jeffrey Allen Raynal, Daniel Caleb Benson, David Lawrence Ford

Patent number: 9169711Abstract: A seal for sealing an annulus between an outer tubular wellhead member and an inner tubular wellhead member is described. The seal is an annular sealing ring that has a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart sealing ring grooves extending at least from a first end to a second end of the sealing surface of at least one of the wellhead members. When the seal is energized, fouling on the sealing surface is urged toward and then through the slot, axially away from the sealing surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2012Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: Vetco Gray Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Allen Raynal, Nicholas Peter Gette, Philip John Potter, Daniel Caleb Benson, David Lawrence Ford

Patent number: 8950785Abstract: A broach style anti-rotation device for connected tubular members is described. In embodiments, the broach tool is inserted into a slot in an outer diameter surface of the pin, and teeth of the broach, which have a successively greater height when moving from the front to the tail of the broach, cut a slot in a surface of the box. Sidewalls of the broach and its teeth engage shoulders of each slot to prevent the rotation of the tubular members relative to each other.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2012Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Vetco Gray Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Allen Raynal, Thomas Lowell Steen, Nicholas Peter Gette, David Lawrence Ford, Benjamin Michael Snyder, Stephen David Peters, Ebony LaShaun Towns, Roberto Jose Manzano

Patent number: 8905156Abstract: A template for use in positioning subsea wellbores that has a drop away funnel that extends laterally from the template. The drop away funnel is used to locate a piling adjacent the wellbores and is selectively detached from the template after installing the piling. A tang and clevis type assembly mounts the drop away funnel to the template, where the tang and clevis are coupled together with a main stud. The main stud is oriented substantially parallel with an axis of the drop away funnel; so that when the stud is removed, the drop away funnel can decouple from the template and slide axially downward along the piling.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2012Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: Vetco Gray Inc.Inventors: Sibu Varghese, Clint Trimble, Christopher Loftin, Jeffrey Allen Raynal

The seal assembly includes an upper portion having an annular body with a U-shaped cross section and a nose ring seal. The nose ring seal has a bellows like cross section and provides sealing in the annulus and exerts a lockdown force onto one of the tubulars. Metal inlays are provided on the outer edges of the folds in the bellows and a compressible medium is disposed between the folds.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2011Publication date: June 6, 2013Applicant: VETCO GRAY INC.Inventors: Jeffrey Allen Raynal, Daniel Caleb Benson, David Lawrence Ford
