  • Patent number: 11927101
Abstract: Tip shrouds or other shrouds with multi-slope geometries are generally implemented using segments, since performing the necessary cut for an alternative split-ring design is difficult given conventional cutting processes. However, a segmented design generally results in more leakage, relative to a split-ring design. Accordingly, a split-ring multi-slope design is disclosed that can be more easily manufactured. In particular, a continuous ring may be cut along a linear path to produce a split ring, and then the ends of the split ring may be machined to form complementary shiplap portions. The split ring may then be compressed for installation by overlapping the shiplap portions, to form a seal against leakage through the shroud.

  • Patent number: 9537344
Abstract: A method and system for management of thermal energy produced during transcutaneous energy transmission to provide power to energize implanted medical devices. A phase changing material (PCM) acts as a heat sink to absorb thermal energy generated during the energy transfer process. The PCM can be thermally coupled to tissue proximate to an implanted medical device, enabling heat generated within the implantable device to be absorbed. The generation of heat during the energy transfer process is primarily caused by eddy currents induced in the implantable device by the magnetic flux produced by the energy transfer system. The PCM can also be used to absorb heat generated by the device producing the magnetic flux that is used to transcutaneously transfer electrical power to recharge a rechargeable power source or energize the implanted medical device.

  • Patent number: 9319243
Abstract: A first processing session is entered with a POP client. A set of messages from a message repository is identified as available for access by the POP client. When the POP client causes a message to be deleted from the message repository (either by explicit or implicit actions), the message is removed from the set of messages available for access by the POP client but maintained for access by another POP client or by another messaging program. The messages available may be limited by a session size and they may be ordered newest to oldest. In some instances messages are part of conversations and the number of conversation from which the message may be drawn is limited.

  • Publication number: 20150195231
Abstract: Loop avoidance information is added to messages to determine whether a messaging application had previously processed a message. Loop avoidance information can be added to messages as they are received in an added header field (such as a message identifier and user identifier) prior to storage. The information can be signed by the inserting application. If the application sees the information in the header of a subsequently received message, appropriate action may be taken to abort processing of the message. This is particularly useful in downloading from POP accounts. Similar loop avoidance information (which might include the destination address) can be added as a message is being automatically forwarded. In a subsequent forwarding, the application could determine that it had previously forwarded the message and should abort the current forwarding. The loop avoidance information can be stored locally for subsequent fast look up.

  • Patent number: 8820754
Abstract: A seal assembly for an axial flow gas turbine engine includes a rotatable component having a radially extending mate face, a seal slot formed in the mate face, and a seal member slidably disposed in the seal slot. The seal slot includes a radially outer wall and an opposing radially inner wall extending into the component in a circumferential direction from the mate face. The radially outer wall is angled radially inwardly from the mate face toward an inner end portion of the seal slot. Rotation of the seal assembly during operation of the engine produces a centrifugal force on the seal member to effect movement of the seal member in the circumferential direction out of the seal slot.

  • Patent number: 5687562
Abstract: A bypass air valve is provided which includes a liner, a strap, apparatus for biasing the strap into contact with the liner, a selective actuator, and apparatus for passage of bypass air. To open and close the valve, the selective actuator unwraps a segment of the strap from the liner before the strap is translated a distance around the circumference of the liner. The biasing apparatus biases the strap back into contact with the liner.

  • Patent number: 5184975
Abstract: A machine for separating serosa from mucosa is disclosed. The machine comprises two peeling rollers, or one peeling roller or belt and a stationary member. The stationary member can comprise a blade. The separation between the two peeling rollers, or the one peeling roller or belt and stationary member is about equal to or less than the thickness of a harvested intestine ribbon. The separation has a proximal and a distal end. The machine also comprises first means for rotating the one or more peeling rollers or the peeling belt at a first speed. A pull roller is adjacent to the distal end of the separation. The machine further comprises second means for rotating the pull roller at a second speed. The second speed is less than the first speed of the first means for rotating. The source of the nonseparated serosa-mucosa layer can be a harvested intestine ribbon of a mammal. Separated serosa is useful in the manufacture of catgut sutures.
