Patent number: 9530575Abstract: A transfer switch configured to transfer connection of each power conductor and neutral conductor of a load between two power supplies. The transfer switch includes a switch member configured to transfer each of the connections in tandem. The transfer switch disconnects each power conductor prior to disconnecting the neutral conductor of the first supply when disconnecting the load from either power supply and connects the neutral connector prior to connecting each power conductor when connecting the load to either power supply.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2012Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Reliance Controls CorporationInventors: Jeffrey D. Flegel, Benjamin F. Flegel

Patent number: 8941269Abstract: A power transfer device for connecting an electrical load to a power supply is disclosed. The power transfer device monitors the operating status of the power supply. Upon loss of power at the power supply, the power transfer device opens a switch between the power supply and the electrical load. When power is restored, the power transfer device executes a delay time module. After the delay time module has timed out, the power transfer device closes the switch to reconnect the power supply and the electrical load. Power transfer devices may be supplied to each of multiple loads connected to a power supply. By setting the time delay period of each power transfer device to a different duration, the electrical transients resulting from reconnecting all of the electrical loads to the power supply are reduced.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2011Date of Patent: January 27, 2015Assignee: Reliance Controls CorporationInventors: Jeffrey D. Patent number: 8810081Abstract: An interlock arrangement allows a floating neutral electrical generator having a receptacle, such as a duplex receptacle, absent GFCI protection to be used to provide electrical power to the electrical system of a home or other building during utility power interruption. The interlock arrangement includes structure to disable or prevent access to the duplex receptacle when the electrical generator is coupled to the power cord used to transfer electrical power from the generator to the electrical system of the building. Thus, the duplex receptacles cannot be used to power electrical devices when the generator is connected to supply power to the electrical system of the building. Conversely, when the generator is physically disconnected from the electrical system of the building, the interlock arrangement exposes or supplies power to the duplex receptacles, and may be configured to close access to the receptacle used for connecting to a building electrical system.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2011Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Reliance Controls CorporationInventors: Michael O. Patent number: 8115476Abstract: A power meter has a connector block with prongs for plugging the connector block into a wall socket and also has a socket for receiving the plug of a power cord of an electrical device. A display unit is tethered to the connector block such that values associated with energy usage of the electrical device may be shown on the display but remote from the wall socket. The power meter may calculate a cost associated with the energy usage of the device and display the cost information on the remote display.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2009Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: Reliance Controls CorporationInventors: Neil A. Patent number: 7888821Abstract: An electrical distribution system is designed to automatically connect a dedicated group of circuits, which are normally powered by a primary power source, to an auxiliary power source upon detection that there has been a disruption or failure in the primary power source. The system includes a switching arrangement that allows an operator to manually connect the auxiliary power source with other circuits that are not generally powered during disruption of the primary power source. The switching arrangement includes an interlinked switch or breaker arrangement that prevents any of the other circuits that are normally powered by the primary source from being automatically connected to the primary power source when primary power source is restored if those other circuits are connected to the auxiliary power source when the primary power source is restored.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2009Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Assignee: Reliance Controls CorporationInventors: Michael O. Patent number: 6060990Abstract: A heat alarm for an electric panel cabinet that mounts a heat sensor in contact with a face surface of the electric panel cabinet to monitor the temperature of the cabinet and sound an alarm if the temperature of the cabinet exceeds an upper temperature limit. The heat alarm includes a mounting arrangement that permits the heat alarm to be mounted to a face surface of the electric panel cabinet. A sensor mounting arrangement within the heat alarm enclosure provides a bias force on the heat sensor to bias the heat sensor into contact with the face surface of the electric panel cabinet.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1999Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Reliance Controls CorporationInventor: Jeffrey D.
