  • Publication number: 20050120519
Abstract: The invention provides a portable safety handle that temporarily attaches to wood pilings for use in the entering or exiting of docked boats. The safety handle is preferably constructed from plastic having a front surface for engaging a wood piling and back surface that is sized to prevent a persons hand from touching the wood directly and includes a handgrip for support of the person during boat entry and exit. The safety handle is temporarily secured to a wood piling by a pair of straps adapted to extend around a piling.

  • Patent number: 6627154
Abstract: Techniques are used to detect and identify analytes. Techniques are used to fabricate and manufacture sensors to detect analytes. An analyte (1810) is sensed by sensors (1820) that output electrical signals in response to the analyte. The electrical signals are preprocessed (1830) by filtering and amplification. In an embodiment, this preprocessing includes adapting the sensor and electronics to the environment in which the analyte exists. The electrical signals are further processed (1840) to classify and identify the analyte, which may be by a neural network.

  • Patent number: 6173271
Abstract: Advertising is marked with a code in a way which makes it difficult to fool the system. The advertising is marked with a code at the time the advertising is produced. Then, when the advertising is broadcast, the code on the advertising is analyzed. Different security measures can be used, including producing the code in the closed captioning so that many different people can see the code, or comparing codes in one part of the signal with a code in another part of the signal. Measures are taken to prevent the code from being used to detect commercials. According to another part of this system, a paradigm for a clearinghouse is disclosed in which the user signs up with the clearinghouse, obtains a line of credit, and the advertiser, the agency, and the ad producer also subscribe to the service. When the ad is actually aired, the payment can be automatically transferred.
