  • Patent number: 10376823
Abstract: A filter element with an improved mounting frame and method of assembly are provided. The filter element includes a filter media pack with a mounting frame attached to the outer periphery of the filter media pack. The mounting frame defines a channel that holds a shut-off material for preventing leakage of an adhesive securing the mounting frame to the filter media pack. A filter element that includes a polymeric material between the filter media pack and the adhesive is also provided. The shut-off material may be pre-formed or applied in a flowable state.

  • Patent number: 10188978
Abstract: Filter media packs and methods of forming the filter media packs are provided. The filter media packs include support beads for supporting flutes during winding of the filter media of the filter media pack. Filter media packs may also include stitch beads between adjacent layers of the filter media pack that are applied during the winding process to prevent slippage of adjacent layers of filter media. Methods of forming the filter media pack include applying the support beads or applying the stitch beads.

  • Patent number: 6626299
Abstract: A filter cartridge for use in a filter system, in which the cartridge has no structural metal parts and is adapted for environmentally acceptable disposal. A pleated paper filter media is formed into a cylinder, and end caps at the axial ends of the cylinder hold the shape of the filter. Sealing gaskets are associated with the end caps. At least one side has a radial seal formed at the outer periphery of the filter cartridge to protect the associated end cap from higher a pressure region found at the outer periphery. The other axial end can have a similar radial filter in some applications, or in other applications, where flow at that end of the filter is not desired, can utilize an axial seal specially configured to protect the associated end cap from higher pressure at the outer periphery. Maintenance of lower pressure at the respective end caps places any axial loads on the filter in tension, and thereby prevents the application of axial crushing loads on the filter cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5738785
Abstract: A housing system for a removable filter cartridge in an automotive lubrication system. The housing is formed of a thin-walled sheet metal drawn cylinder, with end removed, to form an elongated cylinder with both ends open. A base end has a formed metallic base secured therein by a rolled flange in the sheet metal housing. A closure end has a formed threaded ring secured to the end thereof by another rolled and swaged connection between the sheet metal and formed ring. In the preferred embodiment, the base carries permanent center tubes, and the filter cartridge is of unsupported construction, containing no metallic supports, and adapted to be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

  • Patent number: 5702602
Abstract: A filter system using a filter cartridge adapted for disposal in an environmentally acceptable manner. The filter cartridge has no metal parts, and thus avoids the use of a metal center tube, or a center tube of any configuration. The housing itself carries a permanent center tube. A sealing arrangement formed between the filter cartridge and the housing provides a radial seal isolating the outer periphery of the filter cartridge from the remainder thereof. Filter and caps are in the lower pressure downstream zone, and thus any axial forces imposed on the filter place the filter media in tension to avoid the imposition of crushing loads on the unsupported filter.

  • Patent number: 5685985
Abstract: A filter cartridge for use in a filter system, in which the cartridge has no structural metal or plastic parts and is adapted for environmentally acceptable disposal. A pleated paper filter media is formed into a cylinder, and potted end caps at the axial ends of the cylinder hold the shape of the filter.
