Patent number: 8425578Abstract: A warming product that contains an exothermic composition configured to generate heat in the presence of oxygen and moisture is provided. The exothermic composition is applied to a thermal composite containing two or more fibrous layers, which are structured to provide enhanced distribution of the exothermic composition through the thermal composite structure. For example, a first fibrous layer may rapidly acquire the exothermic composition and distribute it primarily in the ?z direction (direction of thickness) to a second fibrous layer, which may then distribute the exothermic composition primarily in the ?x and ?y directions. Typically, at least a portion of the exothermic composition is able to flow through the second fibrous layer and contact additional layers. For example, the exothermic composition may contain a moisture-holding layer configured to supply moisture to the exothermic composition.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2006Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Roger B. Patent number: 7083839Abstract: A laminate structure (e.g., hot or cold wrap) formed from outer substrates that are bonded together to form at least one pocket is provided. The pocket is separated by an inner substrate such that the pocket defines an upper pocket region and a lower pocket region, each of which contains a reactant. Due to the presence of the inner substrate, the reactants do not intermix prior to activation of the laminate structure. To activate the laminate structure, a tension force is exerted so that the inner substrate ruptures, thereby allowing the reactants to freely intermix and produce the desired result. For example, in some instances, the reactants undergo and exothermic or endothermic reaction so that the laminate structure may be utilized as a hot or cold wrap.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2001Date of Patent: August 1, 2006Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey E.
