  • Patent number: 9680327
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for energy harvesting by circuitry of a node in a network. The node operates in a communication mode that includes communicating, via an RF transceiver, data with another node in the network. The node includes an energy storage device that provides power for the node. The node switches, via an RF switch, from said communication mode to an energy harvest mode. The energy harvest mode includes receiving RF emissions accessible to the node via an antenna. The RF emissions are converted to DC electrical energy, and the DC energy is stored in the energy storage device.

  • Patent number: 7559467
Abstract: An item checkout apparatus with integrated complimentary antennas which concentrates magnetic fields from both antennas in a volume. The item checkout apparatus includes a sensor for sensing a label on an item, a first antenna oriented in a first plane, and a second antenna oriented in a second plane substantially orthogonal to the first plane, wherein the first and second antennas concentrate first and second magnetic fields in a volume between the first and second antennas, and wherein the sensor is coupled to at least one of the first and second antennas and senses the label as the item passes through the volume.

  • Patent number: 7286798
Abstract: An electronic shelf label with a modulated backscatter communication system which can actively transmit signals. The electronic shelf label includes a modulated backscatter receiver for receiving a first modulated radio frequency (RF) carrier signal, and a transmitter powered by the first modulated RF carrier signal for transmitting a second modulated RF carrier signal.
