Publication number: 20240310622Abstract: An optical device, such as an eyepiece, including multiple layers of waveguides. The optical device can include an edge sealant for reducing light contamination, a lamination dam to restrict the wicking of the edge sealant between layers of the optical device, and venting gap(s) in the sealant and dam to allow air flow between the exterior and interior of the eyepiece. The gap(s) allow outgassing from the interior of the eyepiece of unreacted polymer and/or accumulated moisture, to prevent defect accumulation caused by chemical reaction of outgassed chemicals with the (e.g., ionic, acidic, etc.) surface of the eyepiece layers. The gap(s) also prevent pressure differences which may physically deform the eyepiece over time.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 28, 2024Publication date: September 19, 2024Inventors: Wendong Xing, Vikramjit Singh, Neal Paul Ricks, Jeffrey Dean Schmulen, Emory D. Carroll, K. Brent Binkley, Frank Y. Xu, Thomas Mercier, William Hudson Welch, Michael Anthony Klug

Patent number: 6836204Abstract: A technique is provided for insulating a winding or coil for an electrical machine such as a motor. The coil is wound and placed in a taping station. Multiple layers of insulating tape are applied along an end region with leads bent back from the end region. The taping station permits the leads to be then placed over the insulated end region, and the main body region of the coil is similarly taped in a continuous uninterrupted manner. The tape wrap pitch may be varied along certain regions, where increased dielectric strength is desired. Following the insulating tape application, an armor tape may be applied over both the end region and the main region of the coil in a continuous uninterrupted manner. The coil can then be finished and assembled in a machine such as an electric motor stator.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2002Date of Patent: December 28, 2004Assignee: Reliance Electric Technologies, LLCInventors: Ray Thomas Reid, Jeffrey A. Patent number: 5925852Abstract: A structure for making a sealed electrical connection through a barrier is disclosed. The structure comprises a feed-through board that is sealed in an aperture in the barrier. A conductive rod is disposed within a bore formed in the board. Inner and outer conductors are electrically connected to the conductive rod by means of connecting structures formed in the respective ends thereof. A plurality of layers of insulative materials are formed about the inner and outer conductors and the conductive rod so as to electrically insulate the conductors and the conductive rod, to form a structurally sound point of connection through the barrier, and to seal the bore through which the conductive rod is passed. A method for making a sealed electrical connection through a barrier is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1998Date of Patent: July 20, 1999Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Joseph P. Patent number: 4068912Abstract: A method and apparatus for terminating multi-conductor flat flexible cable is disclosed. The connector assembly includes a clamp member which initially engages a multi-conductor flat cable and drives the conductors thereof to the desired spacing, which conforms to the fixed spacing of the terminals in a connector housing member. The clamped cable is then engaged with the terminal carrying housing member of the connector assembly to effect an insulation displacing engagement of the terminal with their respective conductors.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1977Date of Patent: January 17, 1978Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: William Jeffrey Hudson, Jr., Johannes Cornelis Wilhelmus Bahermans

Patent number: 4067633Abstract: A cam actuated connector assembly is disclosed for effecting a low insertion force mating of the connector assembly with a plurality of fixed pin or post terminals. The housing includes a first housing member adopted to hold therein a plurality of spring contact terminals and a second housing member receiving the first housing member therein with cam means therebetween for effecting relative movement of the housing members. In the normal relaxed condition of the connector assembly, the contacts are in a closed configuration. Upon actuation of the connector assembly for mating, the housing members are moved relative to one another by the cam means causing the contact terminals to be moved to an open position to receive the mating pin or post terminals. The subsequent release of the second housing member effects a closing of the terminals to an engaged condition.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1976Date of Patent: January 10, 1978Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: James Leon Groft, William Jeffrey Hudson, Jr., Clifton Wesley Huffnagle

Patent number: 4053199Abstract: The disclosure relates to a connector portion for a filter array mounted in a panel or bulkhead. The filter and pin assemblies are soldered to the panel with their pins extending above the panel in a predetermined array for connection to an external connector. A connector housing is mounted on the panel and surrounds the filter pins, the external mating connector making a friction and/or lock securing connection to the connector housing and connection to the filter pins without application of stresses caused by an unsupported and/or unguided connection.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1975Date of Patent: October 11, 1977Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Robert David Hollyday, William Jeffrey Hudson, Jr.
-
Patent number: 3987380Abstract: The disclosure relates to EMI filters and the like wherein the possibility of dendrite formation between electrodes is substantially eliminated. This is accomplished by encasing any material forming a part of the filter or the like which is capable of supporting dendrite growth within a material that does not support the growth of dendrites so that any ionized moisture medium cannot come into intimate contact with the material capable of supporting dendrite growth and so that there is no direct path from one dendrite growth supporting electrode across the medium to the other dendrite growth supporting electrode. The encasing material is preferably gold, aluminum or platinum.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1974Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventor: William Jeffrey Hudson, Jr.
