SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING A PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETER OF PERSONS ENGAGED IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Publication number: 20220079471Abstract: The present disclosure provides system and method for monitoring of at least one physiological parameter of a person engaged in a physical activity, for example, an impact received by a player engaged in a contact sport such as football. The system includes a monitoring unit that actively monitors the physiological parameter of the person, wherein the monitoring unit generates an alert event when the monitored physiological parameter exceeds a threshold of the parameter. The monitoring unit determines whether the parameter exceeds an over-exposure threshold, wherein said threshold is based upon both a single incidence or cumulative incidences.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2021Publication date: March 17, 2022Inventors: Jeffrey J. Chu, Richard M. Greenwald, Jonathan G. Beckwith -

Patent number: 10952671Abstract: The present invention provides a system for monitoring a physiological parameter of players engaged in a sporting activity. The system includes a plurality of reporting units, a controller, and a signaling device. The reporting unit has an arrangement of sensing devices that measure the physiological parameter of an individual player and generate parameter data. The controller receives the parameter data transmitted from each reporting unit and then processes the parameter data to calculate a parameter result. When the parameter result exceeds a predetermined value, the controller communicates with a signaling device that provides an alert to sideline personnel to monitor the player(s) in question. The system also includes a remote storage device for holding historical data collected by the system which permits subsequent analysis.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2019Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: Riddell, Inc.Inventors: Richard M. Patent number: 10945601Abstract: The invention relates to a system and method for monitoring a physiological parameter of a player(s) from a larger group of players engaged in a contact sport. The system includes a helmet having a protective outer shell and an internal padding assembly, a portable signaling device, and a reporting unit positioned within the helmet. The reporting unit includes a sensor, a wireless transmitter and a control unit. The reporting unit has a flexible configuration to enable removable positioning within the helmet's internal padding assembly while maintaining overall comfort and fit of the helmet. The method involves monitoring impacts sustained by the specific player; computing impact results and comparing impact results to at least one impact-related threshold; defining an alert event when an impact result surpasses a predetermined threshold value; sending an alert from the reporting unit to the signaling device; and providing an impact assessment protocol on the signaling device.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2013Date of Patent: March 16, 2021Assignee: Riddell, Inc.Inventors: Richard M. Publication number: 20210038456Abstract: The fluid manifold system includes one or more primary chambers and one or more secondary chambers. Each of the one or more secondary chambers contains a volume of fluid and is connected to an underlying primary chamber, which also contains a volume of fluid. Valves are provided, either distributed throughout the manifold to minimize flow restriction or collected into one or more discrete valve manifolds, which are removably connected to the primary and secondary chambers with flexible tubing or the like. Activating a single valve disconnects one or more of the secondary chambers from the associated primary chamber and connects the same one or more secondary chambers to an alternate primary chamber.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2020Publication date: February 11, 2021Applicant: Simbex LLCInventors: Michael A. Publication number: 20210038455Abstract: The present invention relates to the reduction of tissue interface pressure. The present invention provides a method to immerse an individual to a desired depth into a support surface. The method of the present invention maintains a desired level of immersion over time independent of the motion of the individual or changes in the position of the support surface or externally applied loads to the support surface, alone or in combination. The method of the present invention is an improvement to using an individual's weight or height or other sensor to determine inputs to an algorithm for immersing the individual to a certain depth into the surface. No pressure measurements or displacement measurements are required in accordance with the present invention, and the height and weight of the individual is not required.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2020Publication date: February 11, 2021Applicant: Simbex LLCInventors: Michael A. Kokko, Spencer C. Brugger, Eric L. Yuan, Amaris G. Ajamil, Jeffrey J. Chu, Richard M. Greenwald

Patent number: 8622747Abstract: A new apparatus, system and method for fall prevention training is provided that delivers, studies and analyzes the biomechanics of a disturbance event, such as a slip or trip incident, so that an appropriate response can be executed by the person to reduce or eliminate the number of falls experienced. The apparatus includes a platform that delivers a disturbance event in less than about 500 ms and preferably in the range of about 100 ms to about 200 ms. The method includes a unique protocol for fall prevention training using the apparatus. The disturbance event can create instability in the joint of the individual. An individual's walking gait can be monitored with the portions thereof detected. A disturbance event can be triggered when a given portion of the walking gait is detected. Also, the disturbance even can be triggered manually, at preset intervals or according to preset script.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2011Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: Simbex LLCInventors: Jeffrey J.
