  • Publication number: 20090143007
Abstract: A communications device may transmit a media item chosen by a user over a communication path also being used to transmit an established communications operation. The user may select a media item of any known type, including for example a musical selection, a video, a voicemail, a podcast, an image, or any other suitable media item. The user may select any suitable contact method for the communications operation, including for example, telephone, voicemail, email, text message, chatting, fax, or any other suitable method.

  • Publication number: 20080246576
Abstract: A compact magnetic cable noise suppressor may be provided for suppressing electromagnetic cable noise. The compact magnetic noise suppressor may be formed from a ferrite material or other magnetic material with a high permeability. The compact magnetic cable noise suppressor may be mounted within a chassis of a cable connector or may otherwise be attached to a cable. The magnetic cable noise suppressor may have portions that define a cable entrance, a cable exit, and a cable path. The cable path contains at least one bend. The cable path may contain multiple bends, may contain loops, may contain spirals, and may contain one or more vertically separated layers. The cable entrance and exit may be aligned or may be at different lateral or vertical positions. The cable entrance and exit may be on opposing sides of the noise suppressor or may be on adjacent sides of the noise suppressor.

  • Publication number: 20080164770
Abstract: A system that includes a bus, a battery, core processing circuitry, radio frequency (RF) processing circuitry, first power regulating circuitry, second power regulating circuitry, and control circuitry is provided. The bus can be coupled to receive power from a source external to the system. The core processing circuitry and RF processing circuitry can be selectively coupled to each other via a switch. The switch can be operative to turn ON and OFF based on a signal level received on the bus. The first power regulating circuitry can be electrically coupled to the bus, the core processing circuitry, and the switch. The second power regulating circuitry can be electrically coupled to the battery, the RF processing circuitry, and the switch. The control circuitry can be operative to selectively turn ON and OFF the first power regulating circuitry and the second power regulating circuitry based on a number of monitored conditions.

  • Publication number: 20080167828
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining the configuration of a connection between two devices by measuring an electrical characteristic are provided. Using the measured electrical characteristic, a device is able to select an appropriate communication interface, such as serial, Universal Serial Bus (USB), FireWire, parallel, PS/2, etc., and configure itself appropriately. Systems and methods which determine the physical orientation of a connector with respect to another connector may also be provided alone or in combination with such systems and methods for selecting communication interfaces. The physical orientation of a connector can be determined by measuring an electrical characteristic and a device can then configure itself appropriately. In accordance with the principles of the present invention, device designs can decrease in size and cost as well as simplify operation for the end-user.

  • Publication number: 20080165988
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for blending audio signals are provided. In accordance with the present invention, a user can configure an audio device to receive sounds from the user's environment and selectively combine them with sounds generated by the device. This feature can be used with any device that generates audio signals (e.g. music player, telephone, two-way radio, etc.). The device can be configured by the user to personalize the combination of the sounds. For example, a user can select to filter the external sounds to remove unwanted noises or adjust the volume of the external sounds relative to the generated audio signals.

  • Publication number: 20080165829
Abstract: Methods and systems for powering-off a Bluetooth device from a linked device are provided. A device can transmit a Bluetooth signal to a linked device to instruct the linked device to power-off. In this manner, the user need only turn off one device manually which results in all linked devices being powered off. This process can be initiated by a user through a device directly linked with the device to be powered-off or through a device that is indirectly connected, through one or more Bluetooth networks, with the device to be powered-off. This process can also be automatically initiated by a device when a set of predetermined conditions exist. Once instructed to do so, a device can initiate a predetermined power-off process which can involve terminating any ongoing functions and turning off various subsystems. In accordance with the present invention, a user can initiate a power-off of all the devices on a Bluetooth network through a single device.

  • Publication number: 20080166005
Abstract: A wireless headset device that includes an earbud assembly and a primary housing assembly, fixed to the earbud assembly, is provided. The earbud assembly can include an earbud flexible circuit board having mounted thereon a receiver and processing circuitry. The primary housing assembly can include a microphone and a primary housing flexible circuit board electrically coupled to the earbud circuit board and the microphone. In some embodiments, the headset device can include at least one flexible circuit board and the primary housing can include a connector assembly. The at least one flexible circuit board can be electrically coupled to the connector assembly and can include Universal Serial Bus (USB) circuitry operative to process USB protocol communications and serial circuitry operative to process serial protocol communications.

  • Patent number: 7380705
Abstract: A system and method for interfacing a data acquisition device to a host device via a plurality of interfaces are provided. The present invention is enabled by a multi-interface controller which enables the data acquisition device to interface to a plurality of host devices having different interfaces e.g., RS232, USB, keyboard wedge, IBM4683, wand emulation, synapse, undecoded, etc. The interface controller includes a microcomputer for translating received data from the data acquisition device and outputting a host device type signal; and a switching circuit for electrically coupling the microcomputer to the at least one host device based on the host device type signal and transmitting the received data to the host device.
