  • Publication number: 20240015354
Abstract: Embodiments described herein include a method that operates by receiving, at a media device, one or more signals from a remote control. The media device identifies a user currently using the remote control based on the signals. Then, the media device selects content to make available based on the identified user. In some embodiments, the media device identifies the user by using the signals to identify the remote control. Then, the media device determines that a user associated with the identified remote control is the user currently using the remote control.

  • Publication number: 20230105009
Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, apparatus, article of manufacture, method and/or computer program product embodiments, and/or combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for using electrical button matrix scanning techniques to detect remote control buttons pressed by users. An example embodiment operates by detecting, using an electrical matrix scanning technique, an actuated electrical switch corresponding to a remote control action for a media device. The actuated electrical switch includes a first actuated electrode coupled to a first actuated electrical line of an electrical matrix, a second actuated electrode coupled to a second actuated electrical line of the electrical matrix, and a third actuated electrode coupled to a third actuated electrical line of the electrical matrix. In response to detecting the actuated electrical switch, the example embodiment operates by triggering an execution of the remote control action corresponding to the actuated electrical switch.

  • Patent number: 10217577
Abstract: Described herein are several examples of an apparatus that features receptacles configured to accept interchangeable buttons. Each of the interchangeable buttons has a receptacle interface on a first side, which allows them to electrically connect to and communicate with the aforementioned apparatus, and a unique user-perceivable label on a second side. Electronic elements embedded in each interchangeable button, or alternatively located on its first side, correspond to a unique user-perceivable label. Based on these electronic elements, the apparatus recognizes each button individually, and identifies their user-perceivable label. As a result, the interchangeable buttons may be re-positioned on the apparatus and maintain their intended functionality according to their user-perceivable label. In addition, new interchangeable buttons with different user-perceivable labels and new functionality, according to their labels, can be introduced to the apparatus.
