  • Patent number: 9086203
Abstract: A headlamp assembly includes a headlamp housing, a lens affixed to the housing, thereby defining an interior space of the assembly, and a reflector defining an aperture and arranged within the interior space. The assembly also includes a retention bracket mounted to the reflector and a first seal attached to the bracket for keeping moisture from the interior space. The assembly also includes an adapter element that can be fastened or unfastened at the bracket, and a second seal arranged between the adapter and the bracket for keeping moisture from an interface between the bracket and the adapter. The assembly additionally includes a light bulb mounted to the adapter and extending through the aperture toward the lens, and a connector establishing an electrical connection with the bulb. Furthermore, the assembly includes a third seal arranged between the connector and the adapter and configured to keep moisture from the electrical connection.

  • Publication number: 20140307476
Abstract: A lighting apparatus for illuminating a license plate includes a light source and a multilayer light guide. The multilayer light guide is configured to carry light from the light source and to cast light onto the license plate. The multilayer light guide includes a first layer having an exterior surface opposite the location of the license plate. A second layer is disposed between the first layer and the location of the license plate and directly abuts the light source. A third layer is disposed between the second layer and the location of the license plate. The second layer has greater index of refraction than at least one of the first layer and the third layer. In some configurations, the layer carrying light, which may be referred to as the light guide, may be formed from a multilayer optical film.

  • Publication number: 20140003082
Abstract: A lighting apparatus for illuminating a license plate includes an LED element and an appliqué. The appliqué has an exterior surface, which is substantially opaque, facing away from the license plate and an interior surface facing toward the license plate. A light guide is disposed between the exterior surface and the license plate, and has a first end with a first optic formed thereon. The light guide carries light from the LED element to the first optic and casts light onto the license plate.

  • Patent number: 7150554
Abstract: Automotive lamps are configured having at least one array of light emitting diodes (LEDs) supported within the lamps. A bezel is positioned in each lamp adjacent to the LEDs, the bezel having a dark surface, the dark surface having a high gloss finish with reflector shaped surfaces to reflect light from the LEDs while absorbing visible light from external sources. A lens of light transmitting material covers the array of LEDs. The automotive lamp is especially useful as a rear combination lamp having red LEDs serving both tail light and stop light functions, as well as amber or red LEDs providing turn and hazard signals. A center, high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL), also using an array of LEDs surrounded by a dark bezel with high gloss reflector shaped surfaces, is used in combination with a pair of the rear combination lamps. In one embodiment the rear combination lamps include side marker LEDs.
