  • Patent number: 5899083
Abstract: A refrigerator having a middle fresh food compartment and a relatively large bottom freezer compartment arranged below the fresh food compartment and a relatively small freezer compartment arranged above the fresh food compartment. The bottom freezer compartment preferably supports a drawer including a frame and a removable bin. Cool air can be supplied to the compartments of the refrigerator by employing a two fan control system such that no electromechanical baffles are required. Alternatively, cool air can be directed to the compartments of the refrigerator by use of a baffle which requires only a single electromechanical device to control air flow into three different compartments. The baffle includes a main rotary damper which can be positioned to provide proportional amounts of chilled air to the three separate compartments based on the degree of cooling required.

  • Patent number: 5166568
Abstract: A permanent split capacitor motor and a drive system for an automatic washer including the motor for rotating an agitator in the automatic washer. A control circuit operates the motor in first and second directions. The motor has two stator windings with a turns ratio of approximately 1.0 and a low inertia rotor. The stator bore to outside stator diameter is preferably 0.43.

  • Patent number: 5117659
Abstract: An improved lower suspension ball or collet for a washing machine hung suspension system, the collet providing an axial channel for receiving a hung suspension rod therethrough, the collet supporting a portion of a floating base which holds the vibration inducing components, such as rotating washing machine components, the suspension rod attached at its top end to a frame such as a washing machine cabinet, the collet resiliently supported off of a bottom end of the suspension rod, the collet channel fashioned to act as a friction bushing in a spring-mass-damper arrangement. The collet comprises a tube portion having the axial channel which grips the rod to act as the friction bushing. The channel has an inside diameter smaller than an outside diameter of the rod. The tube portion provides two axially arranged slots cut therethrough offset by 90.degree.. The slots being at opposite axial ends of the tube portion and terminate shy of the respective opposite axial end of the tube portion.

  • Patent number: 5000016
Abstract: A counter-rotation wash system is provided in an automatic washer wherein the basket and agitator are reversely oscillated during a wash mode and the basket and agitator are co-rotated during a liquid extraction or spin mode. A reversing PSC motor is connected through a planetary device to both the agitator and basket with the basket being free from restraint during the agitate mode. Reduced torque requirements and other advantages accrue.

  • Patent number: 4969341
Abstract: A clutch mechanism is provided for the drive system of an automatic washer having a vertical axis agitator, a concentrically mounted wash basket, and a motor drivingly connected to the agitator to selectively oscillate or rotate the agitator about a vertical axis. The clutch mechanism selectively drivingly connects the wash basket with the motor for simultaneous rotation of the wash basket with the agitator during a water extraction mode of the washer. The clutch mechanism includes a first clutch member drivingly connected to the motor, and a second clutch member drivingly connected to the wash basket and selectively axially actuable for driving engagement with the first clutch member. A stationary cam housing is located adajcent the second clutch member, and a rotatable ring is disposed between the cam housing and the second clutch member.

  • Patent number: 4890465
Abstract: A clutch mechanism for an automatic washer is provided which permits oscillatory motion of the agitator and results in rotary motion of the basket upon no more than 360.degree. rotation of the agitator. This mechanism is aptly suited for a planetary drive wherein a first tang is carried on a planet carrier connected directly to the agitator and a second tang is carried on ring gear connected directly to a ring gear. Engagement of the two tangs occurs upon sufficient rotary motion of the agitator wherein the basket tang will be picked up by the agitator tang causing the basket to rotate with the agitator.

  • Patent number: 4779431
Abstract: A drive system for an automatic washer includes a high slip motor connected to a drive reduction mechanism for driving an energy absorbing agitator preferably having flexible vanes. The high slip motor is driven with spaced alternating pulses so that the agitator accelerates in one direction and then slows after the end of the pulse followed by acceleration and then slowing in a second direction so that sinusoidal agitation is produced by a pulse input to the motor.

  • Patent number: 4693095
Abstract: In a dual action agitator for use in an automatic clothes washer, a barrel-shaped upper agitator includes a plurality of fins of different lengths and each having curved blade portions at the lower end thereof. The blade portions of adjacent fins form an interrupted screw thread to enhance vertical movement of a clothes lead adjacent the agitator for improved clothes rollover.
