Patent number: 8644458Abstract: A method processes and conditionally routes a call. The method includes receiving a call from a caller, determining a telephone number of the caller, and determining if the telephone number of the caller is a telephone number assigned to a specific individual. The method also includes accessing an electronic database to determine a stored language preference of the specific individual when the telephone number of the caller is determined to be assigned to a specific individual, prompting the caller to select a language preference when the specific individual does not have a stored language preference, and storing the language preference selected by the caller based on the prompting in an electronic database. The method further includes routing the call to a predetermined destination based on the stored language preference of the specific individual in the electronic database.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2013Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Douglas F. Reynolds, Jeffrey L. Scruggs

Publication number: 20130308452Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing an overload condition in a network are disclosed. For example, the method monitors the network for a traffic overload condition, and determines whether a more severe traffic overload condition or a less severe traffic overload condition is detected by using a network monitor and controller. The method then selects using a network monitor and controller agent in response to a command from the network monitor and controller, a different bandwidth preservation scheme if the more severe traffic overload condition or the less severe traffic overload condition is detected, wherein the different bandwidth preservation scheme is based on a selection of a codec type and is applied to a portion of the traffic.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2013Publication date: November 21, 2013Applicant: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: CHAOXIN QIU, Arshad Khan, Jeffrey L. Scruggs, Robert F. Dailey

Patent number: 8041823Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for optimization of media flows within a provider network. The provider network comprises a plurality of sites, each site having one or more media servers capable of supporting a media session with a user endpoint device. The provider network further includes a media server director (MSD) that receives registration information identifying one or more user endpoint devices that have registered with a particular site. Using this registration information, as well as predetermined preference policies, the MSD prepares a preference order for the media servers of the provider network for user endpoint devices associated with the site. When an application server signals an intent to establish a media session with a user endpoint device of the site, the MSD selects a media server based on the preference order and provides an indicator of the selected media server.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2008Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: AT & T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Chaoxin Qiu, Arshad Khan, Jeffrey L. Patent number: 7593396Abstract: A system and method are provided for reviewing and updating a subscriber's telecommunications services using a graphical user interface via multiple data networks. A data message is received at an intelligent peripheral from the graphical user interface via at least one of the data networks. The data message indicates a subscriber's desired update to a selected service. The data message is converted into a protocol compatible with a service control point. The converted data message is identical to a data message that the intelligent peripheral would create if the subscriber had entered the desired update via an interactive voice response system. The converted data message is transmitted to the service control point, which updates the service in accordance with the subscriber's update. Thus, the service is updated substantially contemporaneously with the request. Moreover, the subscriber retains the ability to update and review service data via the interactive voice response.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2005Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Assignee: AT&T Labs, Inc.Inventors: Anil Kumar Bhandari, Xiaolian Bi, Jeffrey Lewis Brandt, Christine Mary Hartman, Alexander Lisheng Huang, Jeffrey Paul Johnson, James Thomas Miller, Stephen Mark Mueller, Jeffrey L.
