    Abstract: The invention provides a toothbrush including a sample collection member operably associated therewith and configured to collect a biological sample of interest from a user's mouth or other orifice. The sample collection member is either integrally formed with or releasably attached to a portion of the toothbrush. Accordingly, the toothbrush may be utilized as a vehicle for accessing a user's mouth and collecting, via the sample collection member, a biological sample of interest, such as saliva, cellular material within the mouth (i.e., check cells), and/or respiratory mucosa. Upon collection of a biological sample, either the entire unit (toothbrush and sample collection member) or simply the sample collection member can be shipped to a laboratory for processing or can be used for testing at home.

    Abstract: The invention provides a system for the contact-limited or contact-free diagnostic testing. The system offers convenient app or web-based algorithms for obtaining diagnostic care without the need for consulting a physician prior to requesting the test. Specifically, the system provides a user interface portal for an individual to interact with testing laboratories in order to request diagnostic testing, receive physician approval, receive an in-home test kit, and for anonymized results returned to the requesting individual through the app or web-based interface. By providing a patient management portal system useful for initiating and managing interactions between individuals and the testing laboratories, the invention bridges point-of-care with at-home care thus improving access to potentially life-saving diagnostic testing.

    Abstract: Retrieval of one or more samples from a pediatric subject for genetic analysis of the subject's nucleic acid is often invasive and inconvenient. Methods for analyzing nucleic acid include non-invasive and/or convenient methods of sample retrieval such as the retrieval of one or more samples for genetic analysis from a patient that may have an infection in conjunction with testing for the infection. In one aspect, the infection is strep throat. Methods for analyzing nucleic acid may also include the retrieval of a sample from a placenta that has been delivered during birth of a child. In one aspect, the sample is cord blood and in another aspect the sample is chorion tissue. Methods for analyzing nucleic acid include conducting a genetic analysis on the retrieved sample by exposing a nucleic acid to a plurality of MIPs and subsequently sequencing and aligning and assembling the reads generated therefrom.
