    Abstract: Captured samples of a physical structure or other scene are mapped to a predetermined multi-dimensional coordinate space, and spatially-adjacent samples are organized into array cells representing subspaces thereof. Each cell is classified according to predetermined target-identifying criteria for the samples of the cell. A cluster of spatially-contiguous cells of common classification, peripherally bounded by cells of different classification, is constructed, and a boundary demarcation is defined from the peripheral contour of the cluster. The boundary demarcation is overlaid upon a visual display of the physical scene, thereby visually demarcating the boundaries of a detected target of interest.

A sparse set of key points is selectively generated a within the scalar field. At least one predetermined feature-based operation is executed responsive to the descriptive information of the key points as a surrogate for execution generally on the data set.

    Abstract: A system and method for aiming and alignment of a shell firing weapon includes a portable aiming unit that may be located in close proximity to the weapon that includes a reference head for emitting and/or receiving at least one energy ray. The portable aiming unit can be aligned to a reference azimuth, either absolute or relative. A sighting unit is also included in the system and removably mounted to the weapon. The sighting unit includes a reference head that is complementary to the reference head of the portable aiming unit. The at least one energy ray established between the portable aiming unit and the sighting unit provides an accurate relative reference of directing the weapons fire and monitoring linear and angular displacement of the weapon as it is fired so that corrections can be made in aiming the weapon in response thereto.

    Abstract: A system and method are provided for uncued discrimination of a bated spatial pattern in an image electronically rendered as a frame of image data points. A reference unit establishes a general dictionary of predefined multi-dimensional reference functions, and a candidate detection unit pre-screens the frame of image data points to identify therein at least one candidate grouping of image data points collectively indicative of a predetermined spatial pattern. A sparse approximation unit coupled to the candidate detection and reference units computes for each candidate grouping an optimal reference function defined with respect to the general dictionary. The optimal reference function of each candidate grouping is projected onto a corresponding portion of the image data frame defined thereby. Each projected portion is extracted from the image data frame to leave a residual image data frame which, during iterative execution, provides the image data frame for the immediately succeeding iteration.
