  • Publication number: 20180022462
Abstract: A pedestal assembly receives a pylon assembly of a tiltrotor aircraft having an airframe including a fuselage and a wing. The pedestal assembly includes inboard and outboard tip ribs that extend above the wing and respectively define inboard and outboard slots. The pedestal assembly also includes inboard and outboard bearing cartridges. The inboard bearing cartridge is received within the inboard slot, is coupled to the inboard tip rib and includes an inboard bearing assembly. The outboard bearing cartridge is received within the outboard slot, is coupled to the outboard tip rib and includes an outboard bearing assembly. The inboard and outboard bearing assemblies are operable to receive the pylon assembly therein such that the pylon assembly is rotatably mounted between the inboard and outboard tip ribs to selectively operate the tiltrotor aircraft between a helicopter mode and an airplane mode.

  • Publication number: 20180018605
Abstract: Platooning vehicles can result in operational cost savings. Disclosed is a method of apportioning costs that are incurred/saved as a result of platooning vehicles, as well as assigning penalties for unfair platoon participation. For example, platooning history of a vehicle can be tracked, and if that vehicle acts too often as a trailing vehicle in a series of platoons then a penalty might be assigned to that vehicle. Also disclosed is a technique for operating a platoon in the presence of external factors such as municipal regulations, merging traffic, emergency vehicles, etc.

  • Patent number: 9868542
Abstract: A propulsion system for a tiltrotor aircraft includes an engine supported by the airframe and a fixed gearbox operably coupled to the engine. Inboard and outboard pedestals are supported by the airframe and positioned above the wing. A pylon assembly is rotatably coupled between the inboard and outboard pedestals. The pylon assembly includes a spindle gearbox having an input gear, a mast operably coupled to the input gear and a proprotor assembly operable to rotate with the mast. The spindle gearbox is rotatable about a conversion axis to selectively operate the tiltrotor aircraft between helicopter and airplane modes. A common shaft, rotatable about the conversion axis, is configured to transfer torque from an output gear of the fixed gearbox to the input gear of the spindle gearbox. Each of the inboard and outboard pedestals includes a pillow block housing such as a full or a split pillow block housing.

  • Patent number: 9832484
Abstract: A video display system is configured to receive a sequence of image frames. Each frame is divided into a set of blocks. A center of mass is calculated for each block in a first frame and is saved for all blocks in the first frame. A center of mass is calculated for each block in a second frame. Motion between the first frame and the second frame is detected by comparing the center of mass of each block in the second frame to the center of mass of the corresponding block in the first frame, in which a still block is detected when a corresponding block in the first frame and the second frame have a same center of mass, and in which motion in a block is detected when a corresponding block in the first frame and the second frame have a different center of mass.

  • Publication number: 20170339383
Abstract: For an example method of reducing diffraction artifacts in a displayed image from a digital image projection system, a digital controller is coupled to a spatial light modulator. The spatial light modulator includes a two dimensional array of pixels. The method includes receiving signals containing pixel image data and processing the pixel image data to determine a desired gray scale for a pixel. The desired gray scale is compared to achievable gray scales of the digital image projection system. An upper bounding achievable gray scale is determined, and a lower bounding achievable gray scale is determined. Also, a dithering percentage for the desired gray scale is determined. The method chooses one of the upper bounding achievable gray scale and the lower bounding achievable gray scale. Also, a modified lower bounding gray scale is chosen to reduce the dithering percentage.

  • Patent number: 9697551
Abstract: Techniques and systems provide transparency in hidden transaction details for an item. A process comprises crawling one or more electronic marketplaces to identify an item presented in an item offering, extracting offer details in the item offering, emulating an ordering process for acquiring the item to determine transaction details that are revealed after the ordering process is initiated, and presenting at least a portion of the transaction details with item and offer details. In some embodiments, the offer details include a list price for the item, and the transaction details include a true price for the item with a hidden cost included in the true price. The hidden cost may be compared to a threshold to determine if it is excessive. A seller identified with the item offering may be designated with a rating indicative of a reputation of the seller for providing excessive hidden costs with item offerings.
