  • Publication number: 20070175991
Abstract: An automated system for preparing cards for further processing includes an envelope feed hopper configured to receive a plurality of envelopes, each having contents including a card carrier and one or more cards attached thereto. The systems also includes an envelope opener configured to receive envelopes from the hopper and create an opening into each envelope. The system further includes a contents parser configured to separate a card carrier and card attached thereto from an envelope. The system also includes a card carrier alignment device configured to unfold a card carrier and align the carrier for further processing and a separation mechanism configured to receive card carriers from the alignment device and separate the card from the carrier. The system also includes a controller programmed to control operation of the system.

  • Publication number: 20070039685
Abstract: Systems and method are provided for affixing attachments, such as double-sided adhesive slips, to credit cards and other presentation instruments. Exemplary systems include a conveyor configured to transport the article along an article processing path, and an attachment assembly. The attachment assembly may include an advance motor configured to advance an attachment web along a web path, a peeler disposed along the web path and configured to separate an anchor portion of the attachment away from the attachment web, and a positioner disposed along the web path and configured to adjust the position of the web path relative to the article processing path, such that the anchor portion of the attachment is contacted with the article when the positioner moves the web path within sufficient proximity of the article processing path.

  • Publication number: 20050178698
Abstract: A card reader includes a receiving arrangement configured to sequentially receive cards from an upstream process and position the cards to be read. It also includes a first reader configured to read card information from cards a first time and a second reader configured to read card information from cards a second time. The second reader is positioned such that the information is read by the second reader after the information is read by the first reader. The card reader also includes an advancing mechanism configured to advance cards from the receiving arrangement, through the first and second readers, to a downstream process. The card reader also includes a processor programmed to receive card carrier information that identifies at least one card relating to a particular card carrier. The processor also receives card information from the first reader and from the second reader.

  • Publication number: 20050174595
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring printer usage in new and existing printer systems. In some cases, the systems include retrofitting a an existing printer and printer controlled combination. Such a retrofit can include a monitor coupled to the printer that is operable to provide an indication of status associated with the printer, and a microprocessor based system controller that includes a computer readable medium comprising instructions executable by the microprocessor to: receive an operator command; format the operator command into a command compatible with the printer and printer controller combination; provide the command compatible with the printer and printer controller combination to the printer controller; and receive the indication of status associated with the printer from the monitor. other methods and systems are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050150942
Abstract: A system for processing presentation instruments that includes a presentation instrument reservoir, a presentation instrument reader, a distribution stock holder, a distribution stock reader, two or more motor systems for advancing distribution stock and presentation instruments, and attaching the presentation instruments to the distribution stock when codes printed on the instruments and stock match each other. In some cases, the motor systems can interface to an interface controller via a serial interface, and the interface controller can be coupled to a process control computer via an Ethernet connection. In some cases, distribution stock is blank and has no readable code, in which case the blank stock is automatically advanced to a reject bin without interrupting the operation of system.

  • Publication number: 20050104718
Abstract: RF devices are received that include embedded radio-frequency transponders. Each RF device is moved sequentially to stations of a preparation device. At one station, an RF identification code assigned to the RF device is encoded. A recipient of the RF device is identified.

  • Publication number: 20050065638
Abstract: An insertion system for collating sheets of printed material for insertion into an envelope is disclosed. The insertion system includes an insertion machine, application software and an operating system. Included in the application software is a first function and a second function, where the first function performs tracking for each packet and the second function controls operation of the insertion machine. Each packet includes a plurality of pieces of printed material that may ultimately be sealed in an envelope. The operating system runs the application software at any given instant and executes the first and second functions.
