  • Publication number: 20210269575
Abstract: Provided is a method of making a collection of polymer particles comprising (A) providing a dispersion (D1) of particles of core polymer (IIa) in an aqueous medium, wherein core polymer (IIa) comprises (i) polymerized units of one or more silicone monomers (IIai); (ii) optionally, polymerized units of one or more monovinyl acrylic monomers (IIaii); and (iii) polymerized units of one or more Si-free graftlinkers (IIaiii); wherein the dispersion (D1) comprises micelles of one or more surfactant, (B) producing a latex (L1) by performing an emulsion polymerization process (B) that produces particles of core polymer (Ia) dispersed in the aqueous medium, wherein latex (L1) comprises dispersed particles of core polymer (Ia) and dispersed particles of core polymer (IIa) in the aqueous medium, (C) producing a latex (L2) by performing an emulsion polymerization process (C) by a process comprising adding a monomer emulsion (E3) to latex (L1).

  • Patent number: 8591999
Abstract: The invention relates to coatings for leather. In particular it relates to top coats for leather. It provides a leather coating composition comprising an organic synthetic resin in aqueous dispersion and an organopolysiloxane, characterized in that the organopolysiloxane is present in aqueous emulsion and comprises a silicone resin having an empirical formula: (I) where •R is a monovalent organic group having 1-30 carbon atoms, •Z is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, •x has a value from 0.75 to 1.7, and •y has a value from 0.1 to 2.0, and having a viscosity of from 1 to 4000 mPa·s at 25° C. We have found that the use of a silicone resin according to the invention greatly increases the abrasion resistance, as measured by the Taber method, of leather coated with the coating composition.

  • Patent number: 8536296
Abstract: A process is disclosed for making an aqueous emulsion of a silicone polyether having a viscosity greater than 10 kPa-s at 25 QC by combining; an SiH terminated silicone polyether copolymer having an HLB of less than 7, an organopolysiloxane having terminal unsaturated groups, a hydrosilylation catalyst, and an emulsifier to form an oil phase, and then admixing water to the oil phase to form an emulsion.

  • Patent number: 8470925
Abstract: Aqueous emulsions of a silicone resin are disclosed that provide a solid silicone resineous coating upon removing water from a film of the emulsion. The silicone resin emulsions are useful for treating various substrates for imparting water resistance/repellence and improving wear/weather protective properties. In particular, they are useful for rendering mineral-based building materials water-resistant, and also as binders in paints.
