The apparatus includes a trocar obturator and a hollow member in which the open locking clip is enclosed for delivery to a position proximate to the vas whereupon the trocar obturator is retracted such that the clip is locked onto the vessel to effect occlusion.

    Abstract: A safety device for a hypodermic needle includes a hollow cylindrical portion, having an annular groove therein, disposed around the neck of a hypodermic syringe; a truncated conical surface disposed on the shoulder of the syringe; and a flexible projection abutting the neck. When a sheathed hypodermic needle engages the syringe, the safety device, via the groove therein, engages the sheath and is subsequently removed therewith. Upon recapping the needle, the conical surface shields the user from accidental puncture. Upon disengaging the sheathed needle from the syringe, the flexible projection closes behind the needle, retaining it in the sheath. Other embodiments of the invention include shields for precluding accidental needle puncture, and flexible projections for securing the needle in the sheath.

The inner sealing region is connected in an integrated manner to the primary sealing region and the central region, and the primary sealing flange is connected to the closure top by a hinge region.

    Abstract: A closure for a container includes a closed top, a peripheral skirt and an integral engagement portion which extends from the closure top having an outer sidewall which is spaced radially inwardly from the inner sidewall of the skirt a distance sufficient such that the container neck is receivable in the space therebetween. A mechanism is provided by which the engagement portion is expanded radially outwardly either during or after the application of the closure to the container to urge the sidewall of the engagement portion tightly into engagement with the inner sidewall of the container neck to provide a friction locking and/or hermetic sealing of the closure to the container. In another embodiment, locking means are provided on the inner sidewall of the closure skirt which allows the closure to be twisted onto the container but which prevents the closure from being twisted in the opposite direction thereby locking the closure onto the container.

    Abstract: A child-resistant closure member adapted to be threadedly fastened onto the neck of a container is formed of a deformable material and has a top and an integral peripheral skirt on the inwardly facing surface of which screw threads are formed to allow the closure member to be rotatably screwed onto the container neck. A locking member having a locking portion is integrally formed with the closure member so as to be movable between a first position wherein the locking portion extends into the interior space defined by the skirt and a second position wherein the locking portion is withdrawn from the interior space. In a preferred embodiment, the locking member is constituted by a segment of the peripheral skirt itself and a radial segment of the closure top which is integral with and forms a continuation of the peripheral skirt segment.

The apparatus includes a trocar-type instrument in which the locking clip is enclosed for delivery to a position proximate to the vas whereupon the jaw members of the trocar-type instrument are opened whereby the clip is opened to an extent such that the vas is receivable therein whereupon the jaw members are closed to lock the clip onto the vas to occlude the same.
