  • Publication number: 20220170201
Abstract: A process for forming a splittable fiber having the steps of providing a multicomponent fiber; or a multicomponent staple fiber, providing a finish material, and at least partially coating the multicomponent fiber with the finish material to form a splittable fiber. The multicomponent fiber; or a multicomponent staple fiber, contains a first thermoplastic segment comprising polymer component A and a second thermoplastic segment comprising polymer component B. The finish material has an evaporation point of less than about 160° C. A process for forming a nonwoven fabric, a split multicomponent fiber, a split multicomponent fiber with a durable charge, a nonwoven fabric, and a filter and/or a spun yarn formed by the fibers herein is also described.

  • Publication number: 20150111452
Abstract: A thermoplastic fiber is formed of a blend including a degradable polymer and a material that generates an agent upon exposure to stimulus that accelerates degradation of the degradable polymer. The degradable polymer can include a biodegradable polymer, such as poly(lactic acid) polymer, and the material that generates an agent upon exposure to stimulus can include a soy-based material.

  • Patent number: 6465094
Abstract: Multicomponent filaments and methods for their manufacture are disclose, said filaments having a plurality of substantially geometrically-shaped islands formed of a first polymeric material with the islands being surrounded by a sea of a second polymeric material, said sea material having a circular cross-section and forming a center between the islands, from which radiates via a plurality of spokes which connect the center to the sheath, surrounding the islands.
