  • Patent number: 8069638
Abstract: A baler for making large cylindrical modules of cotton includes an expansible module-forming chamber comprising a plurality of module-forming belts that are supported in side-by-side relationship across a plurality of fixed and movable belt support rolls. The module-forming chamber includes a fixed front section and a movable rear section in the form of a discharge gate mounted to an upper rear location of the front section for pivoting between a lowered baling position and a raised discharge position. Located at the bottom of the baling chamber between a bottom fixed belt support roll and a lower front roll of the lowered discharge gate is an inlet through which cotton passes into the module-forming chamber. A module wrapping arrangement is carried on the discharge gate for selectively feeding a length of plastic sheet material into the inlet for being wrapped about the circumference of a cotton module formed in the chamber.

  • Patent number: 7025168
Abstract: A sliding shield structure is attached to the rod of a steering cylinder and moves with the rod to fully protect the rod at all times and to eliminate interference between the shield and steerable wheel throughout the steering range of the implement. Primarily support of the shield is by the implement axle structure, rollers and slides. The shield and the rod can rotate freely relative to each other to eliminate torque load transmission between the components. A notched plate holds the structure and facilitates easy removal by simply rotating the shield away from the cylinder rod.

  • Patent number: 6701701
Abstract: A duct support and transition structure for the air system of a cotton harvester includes a plurality of upright telescoping duct sections connected to a vertically adjustable support tube extending transversely between the sections providing lateral support for the ducts. Hydraulically operated slide structure connected to the support tube moves the sections vertically between operating and transport positions and eliminates duct binding problems. A telescoping harvester basket supports forwardly extending hood structure. The hood structure opens downwardly towards the upper ducts and includes grates for exhausting air and debris. The ends of the ducts open upwardly rather than rearwardly into the hood structure. The basket can move to and from the dump position without interference from the ducts, and the hood structure reduces cotton loss without need for side shields.

  • Patent number: 6546709
Abstract: Bracket structure for a doffer assembly for doffing cotton from the saw drum of a cotton cleaner includes a plurality of brushes supported by channels and clamps in a drum configuration. A first nut on an easily accessible radial retaining bolt tightened against a special clamp secure the brush in place, and the same bolt and a second nut hold the corresponding doffer channel. The special clamp has a first leg positioned over a corner of the channel so the brush is held securely. A second brush-protecting leg extending up in front of the brush removes foreign matter that lodges on the saw drum. The channels are protected by the clamp, and the clamp is easily replaceable if damaged.

  • Patent number: 6321516
Abstract: A conveying duct for a cotton harvester includes forward and rear panels having generally continuously curved S-shaped configurations and fore-and-aft extending sides. The panels are joined to the sides by Pittsburgh lock joints without spot welds or separate connecting hardware. The width gradually increases and the fore-and-aft dimension decreases approximately proportionately in the upward direction so the cross sectional area remains generally constant along the length of the duct. The curved configuration lends strength and bend resistance to the duct to eliminate fatigue caused by flexing and facilitates use of thinner stock material for fabrication. The configuration also assures excellent distribution of material within the duct and across separation grates without need for vanes or baffles.

  • Patent number: 6272821
Abstract: A cotton harvester conveying system includes a cross auger with dual flighting that moves the material to a central location where four rapidly rotating paddles direct the material rearwardly into a separation duct. Heavier trash and debris settle towards the bottom of the auger, and the paddles propel the heavier material along a lower wall of the separation duct. The separation duct includes deflectors which intercept a lower portion of the rearwardly directed material. Heavy material loses momentum as it contacts the deflectors and drops out of the stream of conveyed material. Auger and paddle speed is maintained above approximately 750 rpm to break up clumps and provide efficient skimming action for removal of unwanted heavy material in the separation duct.

  • Patent number: 5722224
Abstract: A fluid distributor system for the moistener column of a cotton harvester includes a distributor connected to the top of the column and having a generally cone-shaped surface with a solid apex area and with distributor outlets uniformly spaced around the base area of the cone. A removable clear plastic cover snap-fits on the distributor and has an apex area with an easily detachable bayonet mounting for a spray nozzle that directs spindle cleaning fluid to the cone-shaped surface. A flush line inlet is located in the cover above the apex area and directs fluid around the nozzle and downwardly towards the distributor outlets in a uniform pattern for good flushing of all the lines connected to the outlets. O-rings between the cover and the distributor, and between the spray nozzle mounting and the cover, seal the unit against dirt and debris and facilitate snap fit assembly of the components.
