  • Publication number: 20150311969
Abstract: A communication network is optimized using modal antenna techniques, wherein a plurality of communication nodes are synchronized with each other along with mobile and fixed wireless communication devices which comprise the user base. With one or more of the communication nodes and wireless communication devices including at least one respective modal antenna, the network is adapted for dynamic optimization of communication links amongst the wireless users. Node to user throughput, node to node throughput, as well as interference characteristics among the nodes and wireless users are each optimized as a network system to increase communication system network capacity and reliability. The multiple radiation patterns provided by the modal antennas provide a parametric for network-level synchronization to improve communication system performance.

  • Patent number: 9135482
Abstract: A mobile dispensing cart having a plurality of locked drawers has medical articles stored therein for particular patients. The storage drawers have sizes wherein the resonant frequency of the sizes does not match the frequency of operation of the RFID system of the cart. Faraday cages and enclosures are used in the storage areas that provide robust RFID fields for exciting and reading RFID tags. An HCP for a particular patient obtains access to the drawers and opens a drawer. An RFID scanning system takes an inventory of the cart after the drawer is closed to determine if any medical article was taken, and if so which one. The identified taken article is compared to the data base of medical articles stored in the cart for the patient and if the taken article does not match the patient data base, an alarm is provided.

  • Patent number: 9123986
Abstract: An antenna system is capable of optimizing communication link quality with one or multiple transceivers while suppressing one or multiple interference sources. The antenna provides a low cost, physically small multi-element antenna system capable of being integrated into mobile devices and designed to form nulls in the radiation pattern to reduce interference from unwanted interferers. The antenna system operates in both line of sight and high multi-path environments by adjusting the radiation pattern and sampling the received signal strength to reduce signal levels from interferers while monitoring and optimizing receive signal strength from desired sources.

  • Patent number: 9110160
Abstract: The instant disclosure concerns an antenna system and method for location-finding of a wireless communication device. A cellular multimode antenna is configured to analyze pilot signals from base station towers across a plurality of antenna modes. Information corresponding to the received signals and each antenna mode is analyzed to determine a location fix. In certain optional embodiments, the location fix determined by the cellular multimode antenna is used to determine an optimal mode for a second GPS modal antenna, such that the selected mode of the GPS modal antenna provides optimum signal quality with the global positioning system. In this regard, the cellular multimode antenna estimates the location of the device, and a mode for the GPS modal antenna is selected based on the location fix such that the GPS antenna is capable of quickly determining a precise position of the device.

  • Patent number: 9112276
Abstract: An antenna assembly with wide bandwidth and low Passive Intermodulation (PIM) characteristics is described for use in Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and other applications which require low PIM levels. The antenna can be configured to cover multiple cellular frequency bands to provide a single antenna solution for use with multiple transceivers. A single conductor radiator design along with features integrated into the ground plane result in low PIM characteristics during high power transmission. One or multiple parasitic elements can be coupled to the driven antenna to enhance bandwidth while still maintaining low PIM characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20150227699
Abstract: An automatic data collection system tracks medical articles by providing a robust electromagnetic (EM) field within an enclosure in which the articles are stored. Respective data carriers, such as RFID tags, attached to each article respond to the electromagnetic field by transmitting data identified with each article. An RFID scanner receives the transmitted RFID tag identification data and a processor compares the received identification data to a data base. The data base associates the identification data with data concerning the medical article to which the RFID tag is affixed, such as the name of the medicine, the size of the dose, and the expiration date. The processor is also programmed to keep track of the number of articles of a particular type remaining in the enclosure, to note receipt of an article in the enclosure, and to note removal of the article.

  • Publication number: 20150171914
Abstract: An RFIC with memory is described where the memory can be used to house a look-up table for tuning components designed into the RFIC, providing a customized tuning circuit for antenna and transceiver front-end tuning applications. The look-up table can be loaded at wafer level during the manufacturing process to customize an RFIC design for a specific antenna system. The memory can be used to restrict or tailor the tuning range of tunable capacitors and switches within the RFIC to optimize performance in the end application. The resident memory will improve signaling latency when tuning for time critical applications such as channel tuning in a cellular communication system.

Abstract: A multi-frequency, noise optimized active antenna capable of transmit and receive operation consisting of one or several actively tuned antennas optimized over incremental bandwidths and capable of tuning over a large total bandwidth. One or several switches are integrated and provide the capability of operation of an active antenna for both transmit and receive functions. One or multiple impedance transformers are connected to the antennas at an optimal location, with the transformers acting to reduce the impedance for optimal coupling to a transceiver/receiver. Active components can be incorporated into the antenna structures to provide yet additional extension of the bandwidth along with increased optimization of antenna performance over the frequency range of the antenna. The radiating elements can be co-located with a ferrite material and/or active components coupled to the element to tune across a wide frequency range.

  • Patent number: 9035836
Abstract: In a typical system a combination of filters (BAW, SAW, etc) and an antenna are configured to achieve frequency filtering effect and efficient transmission and reception of communication signals. Wireless communication systems require specific bandwidth and out-of-band rejection; typically this metric is characterized in frequency roll-off in units of dB/MHz. This number is distributed between the antenna and filter, with the antenna contributing little to date to the filtering effect. Loss and cost penalties are incurred when multi-mode systems are designed which require additional rejection from the filter elements. Described here is a method of designing antennas to reduce the amount of rejection and complexity from the filter system. A superposition of a symmetrical frequency response from the antenna structure coupled with a non-symmetrical frequency response from a counterpoise structure generates increased rejection of out-of-band components.

  • Publication number: 20150130661
Abstract: A modal antenna is implemented to provide a variable radiation pattern for improved global positioning system (GPS) signal reception. A multitude of antenna radiation patterns generated from a modal antenna provide the capability to optimally acquire GPS signals across a wide range of angles of arrival. Minimum radiation pattern roll-off is observed from the composite pattern generated from the multiple patterns. An algorithm is described that reduces the acquisition time for a location fix for cold and hot start conditions.

  • Patent number: 9014699
Abstract: A means of power management and control via a reverse link of a CDMA or LTE network is disclosed. The protocol is set to superimpose itself in an agnostic way to the power management as one more layer of freedom is added. The adjustment depending on the power control is then derived by mismatch if too much power or antenna tuning to enhance the power. This is also following a table in the device that will adjust ECC in case of a MIMO transmission such as LTE as well as SAR. This will generate also a mean of a soft-handoff and load control on the base station.
